Looking to see if anybody has any experience with forward facing child seats in a Golf R (estate).

Currently in a Volvo V90, so an absolute barge of a car but it’s due back. Got my eye on a Golf R estate but a little worried about room. Obviously it’s going to be smaller, but I’m unsure how much smaller.

I have 2 forward facing child seats in the car and I’m 6’1 and looking to see if anybody has experience with a similar situation?

Cheers.

As they vary in size I'd rock up to your local VW dealer & try one out for size.

Forward facing should be fine, rear facing will be a problem on the driver's side.

Mk7 or Mk8? The Mk8 estate has more legroom so should be absolutely fine. Mk7 would probably still be OK but a bit more of a squeeze behind a 6'1 driver.

Not quite the same but I have a Cupra ST 300, I have a forward facing 123 seat for my daughter who is nearly 6. No issues for her in the back, granted the front passenger seat isn't all the way back but comfortable for my 5ft 7 wife when our daughter is in the back. As said above, I don't think you'll have any problems with the space but get to a dealer to try it out if you can.

Had Mk7 and Mk7.5 R estates with 2 x kids aged 3 to 7 and 7 to 11. Both used large sized car seats during that time and I never noticed them being restricted in any way. I'm also 6'1. Narrower car than what I have now but the boot was massive!

Thanks all.

For future reference for anybody that's in the same situation I went to a local VW dealer to try one out and found it a little too restrictive for my 2 year old behind me.

Arteon R or Superb Sportline may be the better options.
