Current car is due for mot next week, likely to fail miserably so thought I'd start looking at alternatives just in case.

Criteria is;

- Hot hatch
- 2016 onwards
- Manual
- £15k budget
- Sub 45k miles
- Not an Abarth 595 or Fiesta ST
- 180 bhp +

All I've come up with is the 308 GTi by PS, although worried about the prince engine in these.

Megane 265/275 would be nice but there's nothing decent near me at the moment.

I love cheap French censored but happy to consider alternatives.

Any ideas?

Astra GTC VXR great drivers car the only downside is the badge:

The PS 308 GTI is another cracking steer but a bit harder to find:

For his arbitrary limits sure, I was going to suggest an M135i as well, but I’d have gone a year older with the “right” number of miles.

Well. If we are ignoring his “arbitrary limits” I’d go a GR Yaris.

Thanks for suggestions. The red 308 GTi looks nice and I'll see if I can find an F56 JCW to try as well. Seem to be quite a few Astra VXRs around which seem quite reasonable too.

As good as the 1 series are, it's just not my cup of tea.

GR Yaris one day... cloud9

I’m in the same sort of boat as you and I’m now heading towards an Up! GTI. Dismissed them at first as too small/wouldn’t be quick enough/a bit flimsy… but having tried one I have concluded they are great fun and I’m really just biding my time before I buy one. You’d have plenty of change from £15k too.
You could also get a decent Octavia VRS for that.

That blue 308 looks great. I might need to stick one of these on the list for when my leased Leon Cupra ST goes back in March.

On your criteria a 208 Gti by PS. Loads of change out of your 15k and no stupid brakes to worry about like the 308.

Can I ask why not a Fiesta ST? You'd be into mk8 territory with that budget.

I really rate the 308GTI and was very close to buying one. My favourite hot hatch.

Also have had 2 208GTIs that I love.

If it’s in budget I’d go the 308GTI every day.

Post 2016 I think the Prince engines have had a fair few issues resolved, plus the 308 GTi has some upgraded/forged bits, so I wouldn't worry too much

Here's a decent looking Megane RS - you might have to go private in order to meet your requirements

Another car using the Prince engine is the DS3 Performance, these are quite good fun
https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202208319...

Seat Leon 1.8 TSI - these can be safely remapped to 240 bhp
https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202209159...

Mini Cooper S
https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202207207...

Kia Proceed GT - always thought these were a bit on the heavy side

Don’t think you’ll find a sub 45,000 mile one newer than 2016 within budget unless there is something wrong with it.

There's a few examples of the Focus ST on Auto trader that meet your criteria. Or if you feel brave, a Cat S Hyundai i30 N.

No end of Corsa VXRs and 208 GTis as well.

Left field option, Nissan Juke Nismo RS?

Was going to suggest a Giulietta Cloverleaf, but they appear to have gone TCT auto only after 2013.
