Financed Car With Endless Problems (need help)

About eight months ago I thought it was a good idea to finance a (BMW 1 SERIES 11D Se) the car has 105000 miles on it. 2 weeks into the finance agreement the car had already broken down leaving me stranded on the way to work. The first problem was the stop start motor. The garage I bought the car off did pay for this to be fixed about two weeks after but it was still a worry that two weeks after me getting the car it’s already showing problems, The car has been serviced etc and we’ll looked after. Just recently the engine light has come on and the car wouldn’t start again I got it towed to the garage lt was a battery problem where the car battery was not charging. So I payed for this myself. The garage then told me where I got it fixed that I have a major oil leaking problem that needs sorting asap and will cost me a large amount of money to fix. Obviously I am not made of money I understand that getting a car comes with money problems but surly not this much. I am looking for service about giving the car back swapping it etc just anything to give it back to the finance company. Then me paying hundred and more for me to keep it when it’s just coming with to many problems that I haven’t really experienced with any other car that I have owned. Honestly any help would be great in what I can do with giving this car back getting payed the money back. Just really want to know what my options are at the minute.

What sort of garage was it bought from? A franchise dealer, a national chain, a back street Joe? You've said it's financed, what sort of product, Hire purchase, a personal loan, a lease, PCP through the selling garage, other? How many miles did it have at the point of purchase and how many now?
Do you know what the oil leak cause is? Are the battery, starter motor and oil leak related (ie a recurring problem with a single source or a set of different problems in a shortish timescale).
Alot of questions but will help someone give you better advice

The car was bought from Blackheath Motor Group, also had been financed by oodle car finance it’s a HP mate, I don’t really know a lot about cars but as far as I know the problems are separate when I took the car to the garage he told me the oil leak had something to do with the head gasket.

It’s an older car by the sound of it, definitely well used with that mileage so these things will happen. BMWs aren’t going to be the most reliable vehicles or the cheapest to fix. If you look at the car’s MOT history are there any mentions of oil leaks?
I’ve bought fairly new cars where things have gone wrong, sometimes a new thing every month out of the warranty period but that’s just bad luck and can’t always look to get a refund etc. You’ll still have some rights under the Consumer Rights Act but I’d look to get quotes for the repairs first before deciding on anything. Maybe then you could try a friendly chat with the dealer but I believe it’ll be on you to prove the problem was there when you bought it

Eight months is a long time. You bought a car with 105,000 miles on it, surely you didn't expect it to be completely trouble free?
Do you have a warranty?
How many miles have you done in it since you bought it?
Having just looked at the dealer website I think you have no hope of being able to return the car and get your money back at this point, you don't state how old the car is but I imagine it's not that new with over 00k on the clock.
The dealer offers a 3 month warranty it seems so I assume you didn't extend it beyond that point?
As things stand I think your best bet is to pay for the repairs and either hope that's the end or sell it on again which may be a problem with the outstanding HPI
I guess the oil leak is a rocker cover gasket which is not a massive job for a decent independent to do

Over 100k miles on a BMW the car is well past 75%of its life. Its at a point where many things are now going to need replacing, if not immediately but sooner rather than later.
It's well out of its 3month warranty.
Buying other white goods like an old used washing machine, it'll have a limited life span, no one would take that back to an appliance dealer if it went bang, its just a mechanical item,a car is absolutely no different...

Find out exactly what the issue is, a starter motor & battery giving up the ghost are wear & tear as far as I'm concerned.Edited by tonk101 on Wednesday 12th October 11:05
The oil leak will need fixing but maybe take it to a specialist (BM Sport/D&T Wise in Bexleyheath are good options) so you can get a proper idea of cost.
Did you get the car inspected before you financed the car?
