Digital service history only?

Relative is looking at car and wondered If buying a car and there is no service book only digital service record how can you check?
What's to stop garage claiming full service history. I haven't bought a car for a while so I wasn't really sure what the rigth answer was to advise them.

- Insist on a printout?
- Some other way to check

This is for an Audi. Bit of googling suggest they have a system called erWin but how do general public verify the service history

With digital service history comes GDPR.

It shouldn't, but I'll bet that it does.

Call central customer services and they should e-mail any history over.

I don't bother with local dealers anymore, especially with VAG vehicles - they are cocks and will quote GDPR bks and ask for V5 proof of identity etc.

My SLK (2009) has no service book. Many Mercs are like this since, BMW and Audi too. But in the history is a printed digital service report. So, a service book can't be faked.

However, on the downside, when I bought it, I could generate my own service report using the Mercedes me website. Due to a change in GDPR, I'm not allowed to generate a report any more. It has to be a dealer, or at least a specialist who pays for access. It basically ensures you have to use somebody with access to maintain the service history.

My current BMW and my wifes Mini both only have digital service records stored on the I drive, they show date of service, mileage and service location, both have only been to main dealers so they show BMW or Mini followed by a number which I assume is a location code.
If I go into each record it shows what was done at the service, seems to work well
