Small, automatic shed suggestions. Sub £2k

Hello! Looking for a cheap car to use for chucking the dog in, taking some mileage off my Cayman and - eventually - for my girlfriend to hopefully learn to drive in.
My must-have list is minimal, but they are proving to be quite limiting:
- auto box (girlfriend won’t consider learning in a manual)
- 4 seats+
- small footprint (small hatchback size - city car)
- low running costs (sub £100 tax, cheap insurance, 40+ mpg etc)
- practicality is major preference - space to lob a bike in (wheels off) is required.
- £2k or less. Ideally closer to £1k
The car will be used for some occasional - but long - motorway slogs. I’m well aware that this smaller size won’t be ideal for this type of journey but anything more ‘stable/comfortable’ at motorway speed would be great.
My ideal car for this would be a Fiat Panda… while there are very very few autos (as with most small sheds) there are a couple. Anything to look out for on these? I like the spaciness and there’s something endearing aboot their very utilitarian, slightly ugly looks!
Any other suggestions? Are Jazz’s any good? Like the look of Suzuki Swifts…
I realise the auto box is the thing that majorly reduces my options but I’m not sure what else I can search for on Facebook/eBay so looking for recommendations!

You won't get something only £100 a year to tax unless you settle for an ex-taxi Prius, which I wouldn't recommend.

Handy, thanks! That Polo looks pretty good - I’d discounted anything German thinking it wouldn’t great value for money at this end of the scale.
Happy to up the tax bracket as it seems to open up a lot more options.
Anything that anyone would highly recommend or equally, would suggest staying clear of at this end of the market? Am I right to have a background worry of VVT auto boxes found in Toyotas at this sort of age/money?
