Advice: Motorway muncher with some ground clearance?

I've started a new job where I have to visit a few different sites and it looks like i'll be spending a sizable amount of time on the motorway. So I'm thinking of selling my RRS and getting something I don't mind racking up the miles on.

The only issue is that the driveway to our place is basically a 1-mile long farm track. So it needs to have a bit of ground clearance and 4wd.

I was originally thinking of buying an A6 Allroad for about £15-20K, but I was wondering if there's a better option before I start looking? I'm not averse to an SUV. However, I do enjoy a spirited drive on occasion.

An X5 or X3 will do what you want and are more car like in their handling than most SUV’s. I assume that’s why the police like the X5.

A lot (if not all) cars with 4 wheel air/hydro suspension will have a raised mode for these situations.

IIRC you get an extra 35mm ground clearance with the Mercedes system in the E-class, so you won't be rock crawling but it helps.

Our drive is a 1/2 long farm track and as long as the tractor can get up and down, the farmer does not care.

I bought a V90 CC, it breezes up and down it no problem, comfy place to be and drives quite well (for a barge...). Also can be quite fast, which is a surprise to a few people (T6 version).

You should be able to find a V60 CC in diesel form, which I believe has similar ground clearance but is a bit smaller.

Hmmm.
I used an Alfa 4C and an F12 for that. And I also have a farm track driveway
56,000 miles on the 4C in 3 yrs, 11,000 miles in 9 months on the F12.
