End of Lease Questions

I’m hoping someone can answer a couple of questions I have about the upcoming end of my lease that is on Friday to save me sifting through all the paperwork I have.

1. Is there a certain amount of fuel expected to be in the tank when it is collected on Friday?

If I don’t fill up before collection, it’ll have about 20 miles showing on the range display

2. They car was supplied with carpet mats, should I dig these out and put them back in the car?

Two young children meant the car has been used with rubber mats from about month 2 of the lease

You'll need to dig out the paperwork to be 100% sure, but BVRLA guidelines say:
There should be sufficient fuel (residual charge in the battery, if an electric vehicle) for collection/return of the vehicle.
Accessories such as parcel shelves, load covers, boot liners, restraining straps and nets must be returned within the vehicle.

The guys collecting will check the fuel remaining and if its minimal (like 20 miles range or less) you will get the 'roll eyes' look and they may just put more effort in to finding faults than they would do if the range was 80 to 100 miles.

If the car was supplied with mats or any other accessories such as phone cables, navigation disc/SD card etc - these should be returned with the vehicle.

cheers, i'll stick about £20 or so petrol in and dig out the mats!

I've had return instructions in the past saying the fuel warning light shouldn't be on.

My first lease car came with an 8th of a tank, so it went back with an 8th of a tank.

Next lease came with half a tank, so went back with half.

If you don’t know what it came with, as long as the petrol light isn’t on I think you’ll be fine.

The collection people will often phone or text you on day of collection to confirm their arrival time - you can always ask how far they need to drive the car so you 'make sure there is enough fuel in it' for them. They will appreciate that. As they will also appreciate an offer of tea/coffee and biscuits when they get to you! And make sure the car is reasonably clean - it all helps :-)
