Car buying hive mind required…
Is there a car that matches up to the following?
> Reasonably quick/powerful
> Strong reliability
> Excellent audio
> 40mpg +
> Estate-sized boot space
> Four-wheel drive
> High level of driver comfort
> Automatic gearbox
> Excellent headlights/visibility
Age not important, fuel not important, max budget £30,000.
Possible?

Lexus RX 450 is most obvious answer as reliability is high up and the mark levinson sound system is one of the best bar none, 40mpg might be a push though but doable, other than that a great big tick next to each requirement. Might get a lexus dealer sold model with warranty for £30k. Takumi is the spec you want but might need some haggling.

You won't get 40 mpg and you'll probably have to invest in the stereo unless it's got options ticked, but you can use the £25k you've saved on the purchase to offset your costs.

Not sure if you’re after more luxury but I’ve always liked these for the money. Fairly newish so reliability should be fine and quite a lot under budget.

+1 for the Cupra.
The more I think about that Saab the more tempted I am to have one. My 530i is giving N53 injector issues and I might just flog it on. It appears to have gained around 2k since I bought it 18 months ago (I mean direct comparables on AT asking 3k ahead of what I paid)
ETA I also quite like the idea of a Legacy wagon but the mpg puts me off (older ones) or the styling (newer ones).

My Saab 9-3 Aero was infuriating to own. Lovely to drive, very fast, quite well equipped, but so many niggly little electrical faults. Almost always in a part that was GM derived, but ever so slightly different, so you couldn't swap in a cheap Vectra part.Never again.

Fair enough. My 9-3 was pretty good, it needed rear brake calipers and a blower motor.Never again.
The 9-5 that followed it was more of a mixed bag.
