Weird one...Audi A6 Allroad, RS Megane or something else?

Ok, so my SAA 9-3 has been off the road more than on it in the last month so I think it's time I looked at something newer and more reliable.
I'm setting myself a £20k budget andI think I have narrowed down my choices to two cars, however they are really different.
Number 1 car is a 2016ish Audi Allroad. I've got a 9 week old baby boy and two collies so a largeish estate makes sense and my mum has a farm so it'd be nice to be able to raise it up with the air suspension and go down the fields if I ever need to (my SAAB is bad at this!). I'd go for the 3.0 diesel in 272 or 315 tune. Negatives are that they are boring to drive.
Number 2 car is a 2018ish RS Megane 280. I don't do much mileage at the moment so it seems an ideal time to get something a bit more fun than I would usually. I figure I can probably get both dogs and the child in and can potentially add a roof box for trips. Negatives are mpg, less practical and *probably* wouldn't be able to off-road it. I just love the way they look and my wifes old RS Megane 230 was epic.
My wife thinks the Audi but I think the Megane. I've had big diesel estates before and I get bored of them quite quickly, but I also don't like putting fuel in every couple of hundred miles and don't want too stiff suspension.
Other potentials:
V60 or XC60- Love the looks and interior but dull to drive and less than interesting engine choices
A4 Allroad- Newer model for the money but I like the look of the A6 better I think
A7- Interesting and less stereotypical alternative
I've looked at other stuff but haven't found anything I really like:
BMW 3 series- Been there, wasn't much fun to drive and I want something different
Focus ST- Struggling to justify them for the price and don't really like the interior
Leon Cupra estate- Not a massive fan of the EA888 engine and I've read are a bit boring to drive
Golf- As above, plus Wife hates golfs
What would people go for? I don't really want less horsepower than my current SAAB (250 I think) and it has to have a decent stereo.
Also, why are all Audis black, grey or white??

i've a 2016, 272hp A6 Allroad, Bromze / Metallic brown and cream leather with a Pano roof.
Nice place to be, moves along well enough and now fitted with a removable tow bar - I see it as a keeper for the long long game as a good all rounder.
drinks a bit but 4x4, heavy and 3.0L, what do we expect.

Things as they are at the moment I've no time for a fun car, I just meant for the odd time when it's a nice day and I wanted to put my foot down. I had a 2014 330D Touring before and that was a pretty good all round car, but just wasn't any fun at all. I could drive it really really fast, it just didn't reward it.If I was going to get a fun car too, I'd probably get a GT86 but I want a garage first.

All of these are a compromise in one way (not as much room as the A6 in the case of the RS Q3) the SQ5 is a good steer.

Hell, I had forgotten about the Stelvio. Would I always be wishing I'd got a quadrifoglio? My dream car is the Giulia, but I can't justify a saloon.
I'm not a merc fan I'm afraid, just don't like the interiors.
If you go for the Mégane, whilst a superb steer, the ride on the cup car is way too hard for the road.
I ran one for two years and a family car it is not. If you're on it, alone, it is sublime, but for general family transport it gets a lot of stick from passengers.
I believe the non cup car is better but you do forego the LSD I think.

Does anyone have any experience of the suspension in a non Cup 280? I had an R56 cooper s and had to sell it due to it being a bit too stiff for my liking so it'd rule out the megane

I would agree with this, and should probably have said it's worth a test drive in both.But, I've had many performance orientated cars over the years and far and away the Megane was the firmest. It does have superb damping and control but you really need to be driving it to get the most out of it. On the occasions that you aren't, which, in a family car, is a lot of the time, it can be fidgety and uncomfortable for passengers.
On European roads with smoother tarmac I'd imagine it would be excellent but in the UK, on our lumpen roads, it's held back - I'd like to try the non-cup version to see the difference.

Does anyone have any experience of the suspension in a non Cup 280? I had an R56 cooper s and had to sell it due to it being a bit too stiff for my liking so it'd rule out the megane

The JCW is ruined by the run flats I'm yet to take off but it does have a touch more pliancy than the Megane did, at slower speeds. My cup Megane was much better damped and had way better control than the JCW but at the expense of a firmer ride. That said, the quicker you went in the Megane the better the damping got - the opposite is true in the Mini.

I used to own a M135i and that car was ballistic quick but the chassis just wasn't great and felt scrappy when pushed.
My JCW is a manual but I think the engine would suit an auto, which was my same thought with the M135i.
