Does anyone have any recommendations for fun 5-seater cars (preferably under 10k)?

New stuff just bores me to death. I would like an Audi RS4 B7 Avant but it's a bit out of my price range. Something that looks a bit out of the ordinary would be nice- I see so many cars that look the exact same nowadays.

S type R?

Maybe you need to provide more parameters/preferences? Good luck finding something, I think there’s a bunch of people who agree and prefer ‘older’ or at least not new cars 👍

Haha I know a lot of people have similar preferences. Honestly I don't have many parameters. Pretty much just under 10k, fun and out of the ordinary, honestly I'd love an S4 or RS4 but they command very strong money.

I bought a mk3 focus st to fulfil the same requirements, tbh it's a nice car, not silly quick but more than enough for the road. But I would prefer something rwd next time

How big are your 5 people? In theory a golf is a 5 seater car, but you won't comfortably get five full-size people in it.

I’ve got a thing for cars in this bracket but my wife won’t let me indulge!

MG ZT with the V8? It’s at least something different and I always enjoyed my V6.

Volvo V70R or even an 850R/T5. Something from Alfa with the nice V6 - does the Brera have it? I guess it’s FWD, though and therefore a little bit st. How much are the Lexus (Lexi?) with the V8 these days? IS-F isn’t it?

Haha, I'm sure I will have that problem one day! Alfa's are nice.

Yeah golf-sized is fine. Max 4 people really but no point in having a car with only 4 seats

2 and a half MX5's laugh

Insignia VXR's are hovering around the 10k mark for some leggier examples.

Quick look on AT has a <43k Insignia in Arden blue, full dealer service history and apparently in good condition. It's £10995 so £10k with a good haggle. I remember 5th Gear doing a comparison with an A4 round whatever track they used and the Vauxhall did alright. It didn't win but didn't make a hash of it and seemed to be generally praised.

My Lexus GS450h is quick and spacious for 5, but might not be the kind of fun you're after.

Is it more 5 doors you're after? Quirky looking 5 doors are pretty rare. Some kind of hot hatch? Civic Type R in budget will be 3 doors. Is there a 5 door Megane?

If you'd settle for "looks nice" rather than "looks unusual" how about a Jag XE or XF?

A half decent VXR8 can be obtained for a little more than £10k if you’re happy to drive an automatic…

For the same reason that 5 seater cars can seat 5 people but are not ideal for 5 people haha, 4 seater cars tend to be cramped from my experience unless they're luxury sedans wink I want to comfortably carry 4 people

I quite like them but the diesels apparently suffer from lots of reliability issues.

How about one like mine. Absolute hoot to drive with the 5 litre v8. Had mine 7 years and its been super super reliable considering its 17 years old now and I treat it like absolute sheet. Recently changed all the suspension arms at the front and the steering feel is now a revelation. Really impressive car and very versatile. I moved house with mine - no van rented - but I didn't have a lot of furniture. Once squeezed an American fridge in the back but didn't think we'd ever get it back out again. If you have never owned an estate - get one. This is my first and I wander now how I ever managed with saloons.
