Jeep Grand Cherokee (2012)

Anyone had one of these? Looking at a 4x4 at around a budget of £11k - but ive been really put off by the reliability stories of Discovery 4's and Range Rovers,which were my first choice. These Jeeps seem a nice rare leftfield choice.

How are these on reliability?

They're a very good car very robust & reliable not as spacious as a Disco4 but still nice obviously Overland spec is the one to get but you won't feel hard done by with a Limited.

I wouldn't say they're leftfield but are now a mainstream option.

If you want a leftfield reliable option then you should take a look at these:

When I say they come fully loaded I mean loaded (adaptive cruise/360 camera's inc Curb cam/heated/air cooled seats/adaptive cruise/sunroof etc) you can add Android Auto/CarPlay for around £500.

Cheers for the reply...ive got to say that QX is pig ugly for me hehe. This is why i only like the Disco 4 and maybe thid cherokee,everything else is so bland looking. That newer Shogun looks terrible.

It's certainly not a looker but once you're inside you won't be worried about the beating everyone else's eyes are taking

If you read through the thread below there's a poster called ilikejam who has an Infiniti & he's liking his, he has the older FX.

Just to add I have family/friends with the FX/QX70 EX/QX50 & they really like them (most weren't a fan of the looks) but once inside they realised they were getting a good car & the bonus of being ULEZ/CAZ compliant sealed the deal.

I have been running a QX70 3.0D Premium S for 5 years, fantastic car and so reliable in comparison to my previous Porsche Cayenne. It’s been so good that my brother and father own one each too. Our biggest challenge going forward is knowing what to replace them with in the coming years, may go back to Lexus, however the Genesis GV80 also looks interesting. The FX/QX70 are a second hand bargain, and their reliability is only second to Lexus. I highly recommend them…

Jeep GC a great car, we had a 2016 Summit from new, which we sold in 2020 to be replaced by a Range Rover.

In hindsight I wish we’d kept it.

Nowhere near as refined as the RR to be absolutely honest but in our experience, it was reliable, highly robust, and supremely comfortable. We also had a great (family owned) local dealer for whom nothing was too much trouble.

Some of my friends have them and they seem to be bulletproof, despite what the pundits say.
They all agree that they are a touch thirsty though.

Had a few now , V6 Laredos to Srt8s , as said above they're bulletproof and do just what it says on the tin . AWD system is superb on the ice too .

Depends how big you are....

Back seats down is a reasonable space, you could probably get an air mattress in the back. I found it not as big as I thought it should be though. Relatively narrow wheel arches, the boot with seats up isn't massive, and the floor is raised quite high due to spare wheel underneath, so although the roofline is quite high and if you wanted to pack to the ceiling you could get a lot of gear it was less than it could have been.

All in all I found boot space smaller and less practical than my Audi A6 Avant I had before buying the Jeep and subsequently swapped it for. Still needed roof box for camping, and to carry body boards that wouldn't fit length or widthways, though they did in the Audi's boot.

Saying that, with the seats up, there is some pretty roomy passenger space and legroom, with storage under seats, and the back seats reclined quite far that my kids really liked and they enjoyed snoozing on long journeys. It helped with my 2017 Summit, the panoramic sunroof stretched into the back, and rear seats were heated too. However fully reclined the seat backs ate into the already challenged boot space.

I had mine for about 9 months, it was very reliable, more so than the A6 I went back to. I just found the car too large for the interior load space it offered, and was too unwieldy, unrefined, wobbly trim and body parts, jittery on the air suspension, noisy engine, slow off the mark and juicy - not horrendous as you could get 550 miles on a tank ( but the 93l tank was painful to fill, even before the recent price rises).

I loved the look of it though, it was terrific value for money, and it was fun taking on trips, but sliding back into my executive wagon was like taking a pair of tight, heavy wellies off and stepping into some comfy trainers.
