Worst manufacturer used car site
Discussion
Many manufacturer sites are over-engineered with excessive multimedia and appear to have been signed off following a demonstration on a 8-core Tower linked to a 40 inch 4K monitor, rather than stress tested on a train platform with 2 bars of 4G with a 3 year old mid range Galaxy. They also seem to be designed by the same people who do equally bad high-end watch sites.
They also cannot decide whether they are sales sites or marketing sites and end up being bad at both. "I want to find out how good the 3-series is, I'll check out the BMW website" says literally no one, so most of the soft marketing stuff is a waste of time. An easy to use configurator is a better marketing tool as 99% of the time it's fantasy shopping but you are devoting time to a brand/model. It should also be super-easy to punch out to a functional used-approved section, most of which are needlessly glossy and clunky at the same time.

This is not just a main dealer/ manufacturer affliction. I got into a ,high class, classic site yesterday to view an implausibly good car, albeit in the funny money league. Although I was just window shopping, other cars may have caught my eye, but the site was so rammed pompous it would seemingly show me anything but the car. I did eventually solve the maze, by which time I was jaded. This problem also affects some cheapie sites of the cabin and gravel variety which I view after articles on here about sheds. Often these sites keep reverting to self praise or promotions for finance or the RAC or insurance, All I want to see is about 10 (not 67) pictures of the car.

I think that nails it. They also cannot decide whether they are sales sites or marketing sites and end up being bad at both. Yes, the over engineering is a pain. The other thing is that with many sites, I find myself having to enter the same old details over and over again, and it's not always obvious how to get the site to remember me.
Yup. I'm tech literate, I even teach it. I never allow a site to save my details, but the option should be there in terms of site design as I'm as lazy as the next person. Wink.Gassing Station | Car Buying | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
