Petrol (ULEZ), estate, towbar, cheap but spicy if poss

I may be answering my own question here, but,

Estate, mid sized or bigger
Euro4 or later
Must take a tow bar
Engine >2.2
Tax <£500
Price 4-8k.

Throws up:
-several BMW's, 3 is too dull, doesn't quite get to the F11 unless moon miles and they show it,not having an E61 (been there),
-Volvos, V50 2.4 is not quick or remotely fun, V60 at this Cash has tiny engine and is dull
-Mercs. Had enough of rust and random spring snapping tbh.
-No 9-5's on offer, they're leggy now and almost all seem to be with either the baseball cap crowd or bald middle aged men with checked shirts and puffa jackets. I just don't think I can. Yes snob, I'll deal with it.
-and Audi's.

I suspect the ideal here is the detuned A6, the 3.0T Avant as it takes a towbar, the S6 (and S4) do not.

Or, is the A4 3.2 any good? N/A so can't do much with it.

Does the Mondeo ST220 take a tow bar? They're a bit long in the tooth, but pre Mar 06 does currently have sensible tax.

Anything else I'm missing?

It'll need a new cambelt if it hasn't already had one yet, possibly a new clutch pack and DMF for the DSG box if hasn't been done yet too. Possibly also suspension bits, bushes, etc, then some smaller bits and bobs like spark plugs, filters, etc. Do all that though, then you'll have sorted, quick, practical car that'll be good to do the same mileage again.

This Subaru Legacy 3.0 R Spec B also looks to have been well looked after, they are pretty thirsty though

He said he didn't want to deal with rust on Mercs. I think that automatically rules out Mazda.

I see the point, a bargain in relative terms for the year, although I'm too old to bugger about like that these days. A good spot for anyone else with time and/ or patience.

+1 to that. I must say on the face of it that Octavia does look like a potential bargain. A throwback to when 2nd hand cars were good value!
