New Car - help / ideas please!

Hi All,
I am struggling with what new (or new to me) car to buy. I have a bmw 530d x drive touring that I like but I have an opportunity (and some creative man maths) to change it for something a bit more interesting / exciting.
Requirements - needs to seat 5, be reasonably quick (no slower than the 530d), comfortable (i commute c.100 miles a day & am becoming increasingly middle aged!), ideally four wheel drive, not too ostentatious (or interesting to thieves, which is why I had to get rid of my last “fast” car) and, my biggest challenge, something that is going to be relatively depreciation proof (given the impending economic challenges this is going to be hard to predict, but if it didn’t lose as much as a new car etc.)
Budget c.£50,000?
Current thinking an Alpina d5 saloon or estate. B5’s seem a bit out of budget. Maybe an Audi s6?
Any ideas would be very gratefully received!

Also not what you asked, but I'd buy something that fits the bill and then leave a little budget for something cheaper that can do the commute in. Putting 100miles on a special/interesting car will kill value as already stated.
Or better yet, keep the 530d for your commute and buy something more interesting for weekends with the remainder of the budget.

Personally I wouldn't put 100 miles a day on a car worth £50k.
Sell the 530d, buy a £10k commuter (S60, Mazda6, 320d etc..) to do the miles and the depreciation and spend the rest on a nice car which you can still take your family in but will not be hit too hard with depreciation due to lower mileage.

Given the comfort, space and 4wd requirements, you might consider an SUV.
I mean, I don't agree with SUVs either, but manufacturers seem to have put so much effort into this sector in the last decade that it ends up being worth considering I think.

Meanwhile an ICE car with a charismatic engine will have rarity value on its side as Euro 7 comes into force for new cars. Think about F1 single-clutch automated manual gearboxes, they were all the rage initially, but being the first of a new technology they were soon overtaken by much better dual-clutch versions, and now the market values the cars specced with the traditional manual box over the early paddleshifts. The rate of technological improvement is always fastest for newly introduced technologies.
Having said all that, I'd be tempted with an EV for a 100 miles a day commute for the comfort and cost savings, would work really well at that range I think. I just wouldn't expect it to be particularly strong residually. £25k on an EV for the commute and £25k for a proper sports car, perhaps?

Hard to be sure, but I'd bet the opposite.
