£13,000 warm/hot hatch

Hello PHers,

I'm currently looking at changing my car from a Seat Mii into something that I don't have to 'drive it like I've nicked it' to get anywhere in it fast. I will be using it for a 30 minute commute each day on a combination of dual carriageway and busier B roads, and for the occasional 4 hour drive to my hometown.

There's a lot of choice out there, and was hoping to hear what the PH community recommends

My current budget is up to £13,000 (may be some wiggle room on this for the right car) and I have the following requirements:

- 2018 (18) or newer
- up to 30k miles
- quicker than 8 seconds 0-60
- sunroof (ideally)
- not white

It can be from B or C segment, as a single man in his early-mid 20s family practicality isn't too high in my agenda at the moment

Big sunroof 13k won't get you a 2018, but why not a convertible? Single man etc...

Question to all,

When these threads come up it's the Fiesta ST/ 208 GTi that usually get the nod.

Is the post 2013 RenaultSport Clio no good? 200 or up to 220hp, interior does look like all the savings they could make were achieved tho. Is it the auto box that kills it?

With that budget personally I'd consider slightly higher mileage / age cars, and buy something faster, nicer and that will depreciate more slowly.

They are good.

In my opinions far better than journalist reviews give them credit for.

Usually I think it’s because they work out a lot more expensive in a like for like comparison vs the 208 or ST. Eg: A 2018 is £16K and not as well equipped.

My posting history shows I’m probably one of the biggest defenders of a AWD hot hatch on this forum. With that in mind I can ensure you an old S3 is definitely not more interesting or fun in any way than the 208 GTI.
