Help - which V8?
Discussion
Hello,
I received some great advice from the pistonheads collective a few years ago when I needed a comfy motorway car - two Volvo s60 D5’s later and over 130k covered I’m no longer covering high mileage and am on the hunt for a more entertaining car.
The next car will be going to the station and back during the week with the occasional long run once a month plus weekend fun driving.
It’s been a bit of a hard year health wise and want to treat myself, requirements are:
- V8
- Ulez compliant
- 4 door - I have two children to fit in occasionally
- Fast - my last car I’d consider quick was a tuned S14a 200sx some years ago now.
- heated seats and AC
- budget is £20k-£25k, ideally around £20k so I can keep a repair fund but can stretch for the right car.
- I'm not too bothered about mpg but some level of reliability would be a good thing.
The current contenders I’m looking at are,
- F10 M5
- C63
- E63
- RS4
I’m keen on the M5 and have seen a nice one in budget, however the stories around rod bearings are a bit off putting. This could be mitigated by an extended driveline warranty though.
Is there any other cars I should have on my radar? Any of the above to beware of?
Thanks in advance!

VXR8: Although these aren't the best value

IS-F like the VXR8 above these are just holding their money so you'll get a newer German offering:

XFR:

I know you said four doors but if you want for a CL500/63 you'd have more than enough space in the back:

Got to be the F10 M5

Jaguar XFR maybe also worth a look for well under budget

Mercedes C63 my final pick

These sorts of cars all seem to have had lots of owners, I guess they are that sort of car that are on people's bucket lists to own for a bit, but then they get shot of them after not too long due to running costs. Just take care to make sure you get one that's had all the necessary maintenance done on time and it hasn't fallen into the wrong hands. Might be worth reading some of the buyers guides on this site too

Thank you all, there is some great suggestions! It’s going to be a busy evening on auto trader and YouTube!
I hadn’t realised the CLS AMG was in budget in that shape, the jaguars look lovely too.
This is the M5 I had seen;

Not entirely what you're after but I did spot this at half the budget.

If I were looking for a V8 for occasional use that would be tempting.
