Merc CLK? Any good?
Discussion
I've always liked the look of the latest models they did (W209?)
But what are they actually like?
I'd be looking at a petrol, coupe model, and seems you can pick up a tidy example for £5k or so.
I don't do huge milage, mostly to and from work through two town centres with a dual carriageway in between, probably no more than 7k a year so I've no real preference when it comes to engine size and I don't think it'd make a huge difference in terms of fuel costs, and I use a motorbike when it's sunny anyway.
I'd probably cap that off at the 3.5 litre though
Cheers

I like the look of CLK's too.
My main concern on any older premium brand car that's now worth only £5k would be reliability issues, as you can quickly get to spending as much as you paid for the car on repairs.
So, read up on its reliability record and get an idea of what things com
ly go wrong, and see what has and hasn't been addressed on any car you look at.
Obviously also check thoroughly for any signs of corrosion beyond surface rust, as that can get tedious and expensive to keep chasing.

Calling ZX10RNIN....he knows all about these.
CLK500 with the later 388bhp engine would be my shout if you can find one. Both these and the 350 are high VED so might as well go V8!
Sensible choice if no ULEZ threat is the 320CDI Sport with the posh seats.

Mine had othopaedic seats, and the pump failed. Cost me £1k at the MD.
Gearbox sensor failed so it wouldn't change above 2nd. £1,300 fix.
Otherwise very reliable, comfortable, and eminently suited to my needs. But not a sports car.
I had a Brabus chip installed by MB Milton Keynes. It made absolutely no discernable difference.
