Faulty new Range Rover, can I get replacement over refund
Discussion
After waiting an age for a new Range Rover phev, it finally arrived, but 2 months later I had an extremely serious breakdown where the car lost all power/electrics on a very busy dual carriageway, the dealer doesn’t know what caused it and have offered a refund instead of replacement however the car is currently selling for £20k over list so I would need to pay a lot more to get the same car or wait approx 12-18 months for a replacement from Land Rover?
(One of the service guys who I get on well with recons the dealer wants the car back to sell on over list as it is not displaying the fault now and would be happy to get rid of me with a refund?)

Get rid of a customer complaint, AND make an extra £20k? I certainly would. If they're selling that strongly and you want shot, there's dealers out there will bite your arm off to give more than you paid.

Why would you want another Range Rover?(One of the service guys who I get on well with recons the dealer wants the car back to sell on over list as it is not displaying the fault now and would be happy to get rid of me with a refund?)
This is your chance to get rid of it and buy something with Toyota or Lexus on the bonnet.
Seriously, why wouldn't you?

You weren’t replying to me but I would say the new 2023 RX500h would spar very closely with the RR quality and luxury wise, not to mention have strong residuals and reliability. And my family has had both an RR and a Lexus

Anyway - OP, they are obliged to refund you, not replace the car at a premium.

I'd imagine the Queen (when she was alive rip) would have been very happy driving or being driven in a Lexus.
I have had many range rovers and been lucky enough to have had very few problems, I like the car and am not interested in profiteering or passing on the problem to someone else, albeit the car is now ok, the issue is they don’t know what caused the problem………imagine the next owner had a fatal crash, I just want a like for like replacement, a lot has been made by Land Rover of people selling on cars at a profit and the dealers making owners sign agreements not to sell(although probably wouldn’t stand up in court) however the same dealers are more than happy to buy back at retail then sell at well over rrp.

But the point is that people don’t buy range rovers because of a sheet of paper. They buy them because they are cool. And Lexuses (Lexi?) are less cool.
If Range Rovers weren’t cool, with JLR’s reliability record, no-one would buy one.
