Very welcome news. Biggest problem with EVs is they’re so expensive which is made even worse by the current state of the economy. This is a welcome step in the right direction.

As per the article, Tesla Model 3 now starts from £43k, Model Y £45k.
MG4 long range (64kWh battery) starts at just under £30k, that to me looks like the sweet spot between affordability and a useable range. The Teslas still feel like a luxury purchase to me at over £40k.
If the cost of living crisis is really impacting your mobility however, buying a brand new EV is almost certainly the last thing you should be doing, as it's a big sum of money that'll depreciate rapidly.
1) travel less - WFH if allowed, combine trips
2) cycle shorter journeys
3) buy a 10 year old small petrol Japanese hatchback if you need a new car (perhaps an old French diesel if you do lots of miles)
In terms of EVs, if you make lots of local trips that you really can't cycle, then an old Leaf could possibly make sense.
Basically, 'cost of living crisis' and 'buying a new car' don't really go together IMHO. I enjoy these random threads anyway though

Tesla prices are still £2K more expensive year on year. Just like Amazon, they know how to price to make apparent “deals”.

Add to that buying an EV to 'save money' which a relative of mine is planning. Right; get rid of a perfectly reasonable (if not very PH) Mokka with hardly any miles on it, to buy a £30K+ Mokka EV rather than spend £50 a month on petrol. Retired, doesn't really go anywhere but is otherwise very tight with his money. I can't work it out, but he's 'saving money' by doing this: I don't which is more boring, the petrol or EV Mokka though...OldSkoolRS said:

Hah, classic. Always the ppl who do low mileages too. If he's done 5000 miles in a year at 40mpg, that's £900 a year. At that rate it'll take him 33 years to pay back the £30k new EV, even if he has free electricity...If you want a new car, by all means buy a new car, but don't kid yourself you're saving money.
