Nissan Note 1.2 CVT E12 - rubber band motoring.

I know .. dream big young man..
Been offered one. 2016 16000miles for cheap from a reliable source. I know the CVT is made of paper but it’s 1k under WBAC price which means it’s 2-3k cheaper for me to buy from a dealer. I’m thinking of gifting it to an elderly relative who needs wheels and can’t make ends meet. Anyone who knows about Nissans and their infamous gearbox reckon they are likely to get another 50-60k miles out of it assuming transmission oil is regularly changed?
Drives fine now. Worst case anyone know what a new gearbox would cost fitted at an Indy (if there is such a service and supply)?

Are the cvt boxes really that bad? Sister has one on 100k miles, no issues with the box but the fog light failed due to a canbus failure.

Practical car as nice square boot in which the rear bench slides, 2008 model but doubt the auto box changed

That’s what I’d like to know .. I do know they were subject to multiple class actions in US and Nissan extended gearbox warranties for some -but to 7 years max I think and it’s 7 years old this year. Never had one though and my knowledge of Nissan is limited to a 2014 x trail which was fine but a manual and anyway got chopped after 6 months as the seats were so soft it was like sitting in yoghurt. Everything else about the car is perfect for the person in question - doors open 90 degrees etc to get their less able friends in etc etc.

There's nothing wrong with many CVTs - it's misguided folklore from DAFs etc. Look at the CVTs on Mk1 and Mk3 Honda Jazz, all the Prius taxis .

I currently have my Mums Mk3 Jazz in my possession. I've slated the car on occasions, but it's now my go to car for any city/congested driving. The CVT makes sense in traffic as it's so smooth. Much smoother and less jerky than conventional torque converter autos and DSGs. I can see why CVT is popular in Japanese city traffic.

My Mum wrote off her 2015 Note, and it's a good under-rated car. My only concerns are that the 1.2 DiG engine has a few known issues and the car itself has a smattering off Renault parts.

Well I’ve bought it. Was a good deal at current prices as long as it doesn’t blow up before 70k mikes which is realistically all it will ever do under relatives feet. Currently sitting in the garage while I work away a few weeks.. Will get it to a dealership for a full service and box oil change and hold my breath for 3-4 years.
