Any concerns or anything to look out for with a high mileage mercedes cla 2.1 CDI AMG 2014 automatic model?

Would 97,000 miles put you off?

Dealer is giving me 6 months warranty.

Many thanks

A test drive, the price asked, and the details of the warranty would be crucial here.

I had the engine first in a C Class on an 11 plate - a wee nosey on the .gov MOT site shows it's still MOT'd and on the road with a very clean MOT history at 148k miles.

Check for auto transmission fluid change(s) - Merc changed from sealed for life to various different change intervals dependent on the year of the car and whether 5 speed, 7G, 7G+ etc.

Engines are pretty robust and good for very high mileages from what I have read, I've had it in a C, E and CLS with zero issues - a bit gruff but in the lighter cars it's fine.

97k not really high mileage, but as previously, transmission fluid
Mercedes Benz automatic gearbox oil and filter should be replaced every;

5 Speed - Every 40,000 miles or 4 Years [whichever is the soonest].
7G Tronic - Every 40,000 miles or 4 Years [whichever is the soonest].
7G Tronic Hybrid - Every 40,000 miles or 4 Years [whichever is the soonest].
7G+ Tronic - Every 40,000 miles or 4 Years [whichever is the soonest].
9G Tronic - Every 75,000 miles or 5 Years [whichever is the soonest].

Mine is a 2013 (owned from new) and it has been reliable in that it has only been immobile twice (same issue that a software update resolved. Outside of warranty and cost me £100 which i thought was a bit cheeky as if you service the car at the dealer - I did, software updates were FOC).
Anyway, my point is that the car needs is arse wiping at every service and MOT these days. Basically your car is a similar vintage and higher mileage so brace yourself for regular bills to keep it roadworthy. That being said, aesthetically the car has dealt with the miles and years very well, it’s still in great condition inside and out.

Hi there, thanks for your reply.

I'd be ideally keeping the car atleast 5 years or until she can go no longer.

How much typically would you pay for servicing? Would you still buy now if you were to do it again?

Sorry for the late reply. I use an independent specialist who uses genuine parts, I’d estimate 300 on average per year for servicing depending what needs doing. I go by the book and get things changed that probably could last longer e.g. spark plugs and cabin filters but I prefer to keep it right.
Would I buy it again, maybe. It’s been problematic at times but it’s never thrown a big bill at me ever. That being said, it’s very low mileage so if I were doing big miles I’d probably be a bit more wary as I’d expect even more problems.

Like any car that's got 100k on the clock, you'll need to expect to maintain it as parts are starting to wear (mainly suspension related) but make sure that the gearbox services have been carried out as per schedule.

One thing I will say is that personally on any turbo car I'd be servicing every 10k/annually.

Find a decent place to get it serviced. Some Merc specialists (in my experience) can charge more than main dealers.

I've been in the back of plenty of E220d's and GLC/GLE Addison Lee airport cars with 200k+ miles on the clock and they all felt like new. The drivers have all said they are super reliable providing you look after them and keep the fluids fresh.

The 7G+ (and possibly 7G) is 75K, at least in the S212.

And yes, under 100K is certainly not high mileage. I brought my S212 on 90K. Currently on 107K. Hoping it makes it to the 220K the S40 it replaced did. To be fair that only went as it was too small and needed it's 1st replacement exhaust....

I know the owner of a Taxi rental company and he says otherwise.

He wishes he could stop buying them but the chauffeur industry just seems to demand a black E class.

Mercs are living off a reputation that ended decades ago.

I got an Uber in Manchester not long ago and the driver had a e220d and said that the car had been far from trouble free and that it was on its second engine despite only covering just over 100k. He said his previous car was a Prius which did over 450k and before that his PD VW Passat had done 300k.

I was also speaking to a taxi driver who said a colleague's 2014 had just snapped its crankshaft.

I'm not sure a mechanical failure on a car that's nearly 10yrs old and used as a taxi is reflective of overall model or brand reliability!

Definitely - I'm always suspicious when I see cars that wear miles well and are a taxi favourite. 12yr old diesel Toyota Avensis with only 60k miles you say scratchchin

hehe
