Economical, reliable, cheap wafter
Discussion
If that's all it's going to be used for then economy is surely almost irrelevant. 240 miles a month means fuel cost will be negligible compared to all the other costs of running a car.
Lexus GS or LS of some variety depending on budget will take some beating I think. Even a V8 LS should manage 30 mpg+ on that sort of run.

Budget can be higher, and yes fuel economy is not the main issue. The miser inside however hates the pump visits lately.
An LS is the obvious choice, however I am also open to unexpected suggestions. I would love a w222 S-klasse, however I have had some hoorid experiences with MB servicing and their horrendously overpriced services; not sure what engine choice is the most reliable.
A8 is also on the radar but the same question as above.

From experience - both an A8 and S class will go wrong at some point and the bills won't be cheap. Our A8 with the 3.0 tdi did go on to do 240k miles but needed a lot of money spent on it to get that far.An LS is the obvious choice, however I am also open to unexpected suggestions. There are obviously still things that could go wrong with a Lexus but the odds are stacked much more highly in your favour. Honda Legend might be worth a look, not as wafty as an LS but still pretty good.

Allready have an Infiniti (EX 37s) which was decent value, the chasis is a bit stiff and would like something else.
The Honda Legend looks very intrigueing, seems like a LOT of car for the money. Is it comfy?
Will look into an LS, however the prices seem to have gone up here in CH .
Jag XJ the newer body style? are they as unreliable as their reputation suggests?

I've only had a brief ride in a Legend as a passenger but I would say it's more luxurious than a 5 series or e class but not quite on the same waftiness level as an LS. They apparently handle surprisingly well too.The Honda Legend looks very intrigueing, seems like a LOT of car for the money. Is it comfy?

No direct experience of the XJ but a friend got rid of his before the warranty ran out as it was proving to be unreliable on a Range Rover style scale.
What's the little indentation under the boot lid in the Infiniti G? Where the boot normally goes? Looks barely big enough for a wallet let alone a suitcase, if thats the boot it's tiny. And with that fuel consumption.ption plus £615 VED you won't have a wallet left after long. The Infiniti M looks bigger yet has vastly better fuel, plus much lower tax. Don't hear a yrhing a out them though, are they any good?
