Which Audi?

Hi all,

The misses wants to go back to buying an audi, she used to have a 2.0 fsi for years and loved the thing, never had an issue.
Her range rover went for mot yesterday and failed to the point where she was told "it could of tipped over" even though we had a specialist look over it September last year, and it was deemed okay.

Not sure who to believe, i havent looked at the range myself because I've been busy at work, but my misses was in tears over it because our daughters safety is priority. She felt like she let her down.

What audi engine would you guys recommend for reliability? I know most the TFSI ranges have timing chain issues and camshaft wear, oil loss and a list of other things. She wants an A3, an estate or Q3, and we have around 10k to play with. We are booked in tomorrow at an audi dealership, but I don't want to jump the gun and buy rubbish.

A budget of £10k wouldn't have got you anything in an Audi dealership when I last worked in one. And that was in 1997!

How about an A3 2.0tfsi? Seems that is what she wants.

By going to the dealership i assume you meant 10k deposit and 10k additional finance at 12 odd percent!

I’m a massive believer if you survive a car nowadays there are a reliable.

On a personal observation I’ve noticed that A4s seem to be priced pretty well at the moment and well worth a look at as they like all Audi cars they don’t really have a weakness.

With a £10k budget I would avoid Audis as you’re only likely to get something old/high mileage. You might as well get a lesser brand which is a bit smaller and newer.

I did mention buying a honda as my personal preference, but because she's had an Audi previously and a crappy 206 when she passed her test, she won't go alternative.

The 1.4 TFSi is a good little engine - feels quicker / more responsive than a 1.4 would suggest, does 50mpg, £30 road tax if you get the right year.

I've got a 64 plate A3 1.4 S-line (it's going in Mar or Apr when my lease arrives). That's worth £10.5k as it has only 45k on the clock - gives you an idea of what £10k will give you. Non S-Line models are cheaper obviously.

The previous model had the engines with the timing chain issues.

Then I would stick with something fairly robust like a diesel A3 or Q2, or Q3. Try to find one that’s been looked after.
