Hi all,

I'm just wondering whether BCA are allowing private purchasers at their auctions again? I've had a car from them many years ago & was more then happy with it, so wouldn't mind picking another one up prior to a dealer having to rectify curb rash etc etc.

Thanks

As a word of warning, only about 10% of the traditional flow of cars are going through auctions, prices are sky high and can be more than forecourt with buyers fees, certainly more than private purchases. Plus you cannot see or hear them running and are subject to their inspections being accurate.

Id not touch anything from a dealer group or WBAC due to the risk of issues present, whilst MB / BMW etc can pretty much defleet all their cars straight in to their dealer network.

Buy privately would be my advice

Thanks for all the advice!

There's not many private sales for ~20k SUV type cars though, so I thought I'd try & see if I could cut out the middle man biggrin - never mind, the search goes on.

Ads now split between Autotrader, fb marketplace, gumtree - with a sensible approach its still the best way to find a decent car from a responsible owner, we managed a VW Up and a VW Corsa - both 1 owner with full main dealer service history and agreed on prices for both about £300 more than WBAC.

Also, you now can’t get a BCA card unless you show proof that you’re in the trade which is usually evidenced by a trader’s insurance policy.

Has this changed again since BCA’s acquisition of the ex Aston Barclay sites?

Many moons ago I looked at buying privately though BCA, but there was a hefty buyers premium to pay.
This was before it went trade only.
I guess if they allow privateers in it’ll be loaded against them in some way.
