2017 L405 Range Rover Vogue

I'm looking for some advice from those with experience of the L405.
I've been offered a 2017 3.0 Vogue, 1 owner, FSH, 35k miles for £34k. It comes with options like HUD, front and read heated seats, top spec sound system etc. The current owner collects their new one in March and has offered it to me at trade-in, so it does represent a saving vs retail but it will also need new pads, an MOT and service in March (which he won't do for obvious reasons).
I'm very tempted but everything I've read states the 4.4 V8 is the engine to have, albeit worse economy and higher RFL. And I then start questioning myself if the Vogue SE or Autobiography is worth going for. Before I know it, I've walked myself up another £15k.
My question is does this car represent a good buy at £34k or am I always going to be wishing I'd gone for a higher spec?

Is it a good buy at £34k? Yes, very.
Will you wish it had more spec...possibly! It depends on what you're used to. They're not too bad in base trim, but I don't think the Vogue's came with adaptive cruise, for example, unless it was specced?
What's the colour outside/inside - almost got me tempted now!
I had a 2016 L494 Sport for 3.5 years and it was lovely (and the most reliable car I've ever owned - go figure!)

I don't know the official colour names yet but it's dark grey with a very light interior. No doubting it's a gorgeous looking car.

No, I don't believe so.The LR warranty I have found to be excellent and included has a £750 MOT failure included.
You could find out who is behind the LR Warranty and see if they provide similar cover and get it direct but I would not be running a SDV6 out of warranty.

But the real benefit is the peace of mind it gives if the crank snaps or the oil pump let’s go and grenades the engine ££££££££.

That's good to know (and terrifying to know), thank you. I am fine changing brake pipes, discs, pads, suspension arms etc., so that doesn't concern me too much. Of course there isn't much I can do to prevent the crank or oil pump letting go, so I'll investigate a substantial 3rd party warranty that would cover those.But the real benefit is the peace of mind it gives if the crank snaps or the oil pump let’s go and grenades the engine ££££££££.

You will be used to the high spend on consumables (suspension, brakes etc) from your Disco 3. Just use a good specialist and not Land Rover.
Regarding the engine, those who have suffered a snapped crank will say you are crazy considering it, but there are a huge number of us who haven't suffered from it (mine is on 141k now) who will say, go for it!
Personally, I wouldn't be too concerned. Just keep changing the oil regularly and look after it the best you can afford.

Ask him if you could put it through a mot before you buy.

Is there any room on the price? I'd assume his trade in from LR would be nearer 30k?

It has some strange options added rather than the original owner just getting a vogue SE, sliding pan roof, soft close doors etc. The only thing I really do wish I had (and was the only reason I wanted a VSE originally) is adaptive cruise. I find all the other extras like spit screen tv etc a bit of a novelty.
I spent a few months looking and waiting for an approved used example with my ideal spec to fall into price but it never quite happened. Most others were £40k+ at the time.
I went for the 3.0 as it's plenty for the type of car it is IMO, I'd swapped out of an E92 M3, I knew I wanted a steady cruiser for the family. I can honestly say in the year I've had it I've not once thought "oh i wish this was faster". The lower VED, plus current 38mpg long term average is a nice change from the m3

No room for movement on price, that's the trade-in he's been offered.

Only other thing to consider is the timing belt on the v6 is every 7 years, so due on yours next year. The V8 are chain i believe
