Buying a car on Sunday BACS

Hi guys, seen a car I’m interested in and if all is well I’ll buy it. The owner wants BACS which is fine but I’m nervous that it will delayed since it’s a Sunday. Is this the case or should I be fine ?

BACs is sometimes not the issue - your bank may not release the funds immediately to the seller. Fraud checks and all that malarkey, or the banks deciding when, where and to whom you can spend your money with. It’s happened to me twice so check if there’s anything you can do with your bank before setting off.

I've experienced a few delays with BACs/faster payments when buying cars or larger ticker items. Sometimes the payment is confirmed sent on my side, but fails to show up in the sellers account for anywhere from 30-120 mins.

If I now buy something pricey using BACs, I take my tablet, which is "authorised" and the little card reader, and either connect to my phone or ask to connect to the sellers wifi.

Good advice on taking card reader and a trusted device. I bought my car (36k) using faster payments, took about an hour as the bank paused it - I ended up having to phone them to unblock it

Also good advice to call bank and tell them first, to minimise friction on the day

I like to send a small payment upfront, even if it's only £1 and ask if they've received it. That then sets them up as an 'existing payee' in your bank account.

Agreed, exactly what I've done in the past. Creating a new payee pathway is vital before trying to do a large transaction.
