Hi

Any thoughts or recommendations on the best company to use for checking car histories prior to purchase?

I was going to use CarVerical, having seen endorsements from several YouTubers, including Salvage Rebuilds UK and Calvin's car diary (appreciate CarVerical are sponsors of the channel, but even so)

However, the Trustpilot reviews for CarVerical though are awful; all the recent reviews are 1 or 2 stars and lots of people saying how bad the customer service is.

Cheers

The cost of car vertical is £29.99 for a report. I recently purchased a car and used Vcheck and it cost £4.99.

I think car vertical have done a brilliant marketing campaign and have convinced people to pay a lot more for their service in the belief that it tells you more than a £4.99 check.

Whereas, i am so sick and tired of having CarVertical rammed down my throat on countless Youtube channels, i would go out of my way not to use them!

And as above, Vcheck is loads cheaper for exactly the same thing.

Carvertical's USP is that it does what Vcheck does but internationally. If you have a car thats likely to have been imported/exported to mask history (supercars, rare cars etc) then I'd go for Carvertical. Salvage Rebuilds onces covered a Lambo Rob considered at Copart and turned out it was a US import that had been written off twice in the US and had been bodged back together. The Carvertical report picked this up and he didn't bid on it. (it was for himself rather than for the channel).

For your run of the mill Focus or Golf vcheck will be fine - I have used them before and their report is pretty good.

Is there anything available today like the old Cazana which gave not only the standard stuff that every check offers, but also dates of when the car previously changed hands and previously for-sale classified listings?

the totalcarcheck app is what you want for this. A full report costs but it gives you the advert date, price and mileage in the free report.

Was that the one that showed previous ads with photos? I think it was good to get people interested before they got sold/raised some capital.

TotalCarCheck does previous ad prices for free, but no photos, annoyingly.
