Insignia or Passat?
Discussion
Hi. New on here. I've found 2 cars I'm interested in buying. A Vauxhall Insignia elite 2.0 diesel hatchback 2015,69k and a VW Passat 1.6 diesel bluemotion executive 2014, 93k on the clock. Just wondering which is the best option for reliability and fuel economy for a family/commuting car?
Goodness it's like choosing between syphilis and gonorrhea.
Both being diesel will be in the zone for bills, usage and history dependent. I'd want to see all consumables having been done recently (ie discs, pads, tyres), and receipts not just stamps for the mainstream routine work.
I'd be wanting to pay buttons for an old shape Insignia, which is a surprisingly good steer, and well equipped as an Elite. I think they're still Euro 5 diesel so are not ulez et al compliant, a future issue if not an immediate one.
The Passat is also Euro 5, I'd check when a cambelt is due, might be next year at 10 years old, which will be pricey. They're defo a bit more wooden to drive, read firm, and I think the 1. 6 takes over 12 seconds to get to 60. Which takes away even more fun.
Insignia from the two but I'd seriously look at a Mondeo myself.
