I am currently looking at buying a car privately for upto £15k. I know the RAC do pre purchase inspection checks but I have heard mixed reviews. Can anyone recommend a company that does these checks and provide reliable reports?
IMO the best option is an independent specialist who knows that sort of car, ideally you can get not just a condition report but an estimate for any work that may need doing.
A specialist will know the weak points to look for on that model, which RAC/AA won't.
A lot is going to depend on the individual who does the inspection.
With that in mind, I used Clickmechanic for my last purchase and the guy was very thorough. I think you can check reviews for the ones they use local to you.
