Main dealer prices
Discussion
What does the price look like versus others available - assuming any obvs.
I think still a fair amount of wait times for brand new so second hand especially if good cars still in demand.
How long in stock.
My son is an Audi salesman and tells me that still a lot of customer demand.
That all said £250 doesn’t sound a lot but all relative.

The price seems about on par with others for age and mileage.
I cant tell how long its been on sale for as I only just started to look.
Its ex demo so its hard to know what they have in it as I don't know their margin in demo.
If it was used my guess is they have 7-8k in it (obviously before costs).
I would have thought enough wiggle room for £1000 off maybe even a bit more.

If one of theirs ex demo then could be very little time for sale as usually put on sale at set times. I cant tell how long its been on sale for as I only just started to look.

Depends on make as to margin but also if one of their own ,margin more difficult to ascertain.
If only 12 months old then clearly balance of manufacturer wty not an issue so nothing to negotiate on that.
Yes you might be able to get the next service ( ie in 12 months time ) foc maybe but use that as a fall back ie why not ask for £1,000 and see what happens ?
Sorry I should be clear, I can negotiate but its good to have the info on the market before hand. I have not really started to negotiate yet tbh. Just asked what they can do and 250 was the answer. On my last car it took about a week to hammer the deal.
I used to be pretty up on things but the last few years I have lost touch with a lot of contacts and I have not been buying / selling much either so was just wondering where is a good starting point..

I bought a 67 plate 440 GC from a BMW main dealer last year. Absolutely no negotiation at all, despite my very best efforts (I have been through lots of cars so know the drill). Their position was that it was the cheapest on on the market for mileage/age etc, which was true.
I ended up with a few hundred off after it was clear that it hadn't been through their 100 point check. Wheels out of balance, scratches on windscreen (replaced by them) etc.
It was an odd experience though. Not even a tank of fuel could be negotiated!

Wasn’t trying to teach you to suck eggs
Don’t think the negotiation is any different today than a few years ago though and all depends on the car and the circumstances.
I’ve bought second hand cars and not a penny off ( both a Defender and a Fiesta ) as both in demand and if I didn’t buy someone else would have.
However in both cases got something off as such with various add ons foc.
Bought brand new and sometimes nothing off ( usually Porsche ) and lots !

I got ~3% off a car in Feb, was a 4 year old car on SoR though so rather different situation.
I found other comparable cars that were around that much cheaper, and decided I was prepared to walk away if they didn't match those prices. I offered, they said no, I said ok leave it there, they rang back the next day to accept what I'd offered.
On the how long it's been on sale for, if it's on AT the URL of the ad shows the date the ad was created (usually a few days before it actually goes live).

reminded me of my “ worse “ negotiation ever when trying to buy a car for my middle child. Sticker price was ok but worth an ask ( with a suggested figure ) to which the answer was simply and literally no.
Tried again with a different reduction - again no ( and I do mean just one word ).
Reminded the dealer than the tyres were slightly mismatched ( front v rear ) and felt like a champion when he then agreed to 4 new but I paid for 2.

NP all good. I will see if its still on the website next week, its not helping its not a local car and not a dealer I have ever bought from before.
I always find its easier when you are a repeat customer because they know you are not a messer.
Yup quite agree although if the salesman is decent enough they should be looking to create a new relationship with future further potential sales. I always find its easier when you are a repeat customer because they know you are not a messer.
Obviously I didn’t ask my son to work for Audi but it’s made things easier ….and cheaper.
Good luck for next week.

Our garage has 150 used cars and we are selling triple the amount we usually do over the last year or so.
We have not really discounted a car in the last year, stock is hard to replace and profit is there to be had in the climate so i think you will find it difficult to get a discount on certain cars.
We have just had a car traded in yesterday, It has been priced cleaned pictured and placed on the web.
shows £800 below market value and there are not many like it for sale, customer was on site 2 hours this morning trying to get a discount despite it being priced right perfect condition and so on in the end we asked them to leave and they then decided to buy it.
Just do your research and see if its priced right then maybe see what you think for an offer.

OK so its on AT. The URL starts with 20230411 so I assume its only been for sale since 3 days ago?
Might be why they are not playing ball.
Yeah, at least that ad looks to have been created Tuesday.Might be why they are not playing ball.
Some dealers pull and re-create ads so they have 'new' ads for cars they've had a while, but I think that's a minority.
So it would tend to support the idea it may not have been for sale long, which I agree means I'd expect much less scope for discount.
Well that was a waste of a day. 5 hour round trip. Car was there, but f*ck me it was tatty for a 6 month old car.
Scratches on every panel, stone chips and a heavy car park ding on one door. Various bits of trim badly scuffed.
But the worst was just the general cleanliness, it looked like it had been taken through a safari park.... with the chimps inside.
FFS, not seen so much as a car wash. I mean you have customer coming from a distance you want to create a good impression surely. Nope.
To make matters worse the sales person had zero product knowledge. Shocking really.
At the end of the test drive offered no further discount and basically said take it or leave it.
Guess its just a guy to punch a keyboard in reality. Anyway, thats not happening!
