So as my car isnt euro 6, its going to have to go...

been looking for a bit, Now running an A6 TDi V6 with 330 hp.... everything else in my price range feels sloow...

so not wanting to spend silly money or get something leggy as id soon be in the need another car again..

So looking at either the C-HR hybrid.or a T-Roc / Ateca

thing is I have to drive Edinburgh to York and even Slough from time to time, and Ill need to go into clean air zones...

Although the diesels are euro 6, Im worried that they may change the euro 6 thing soon enough and im back at square 1...

so consigned to loosing the A6, Im looking at something that comfy to sit in and has a bit of a turn of speed when required.

You won't have to worry about this for quite a while, the next ULEZ change will be Euro5 petrols.

Why on earth would you have to go from an A6 to Ateca/C-HR because of ULEZ rules? There are dozens of affordable, quick ULEZ exempt cars that offer what you like about the A6 - including 330hp petrol A6s (the 4.2 V8s/V8 FSI plus less powerful but similarly quick 3.0 TFSIs). If you can afford an Ateca/C-HR, you can definitely afford one of these.

Going from an A6 to an Ateca/C-HR with your wishlist is like someone who much prefers period properties selling a thatched cottage and moving into a 15th floor new build flat simply because the energy efficiency is better. Sounds like a recipe for disaster to me…

there is liking nice cars, and trying to balance that on the back of 10 year / 100k miles policies and not wanting to be out of pocket. will get a toy again and use the day car for running back and forth. petrol is out. as covering a fair distance. A6 is 10 years old. id have kept it if it had been ulez..... what was in the frame at 4 years 25-30k miles at 20k ?

I'd say take a look at these they're sensible money Mercedes drivetrains & with your 100k & 10 year old limit I think they hit your brief without to much compromise:

This is the impact of hastily implemented and poorly communicated CAZs though innit. I live in Edinburgh (connecting the dots it appears OP lives in Edinburgh too, or perhaps Glasgow) and the CAZs/LEZs/whatever you want to call them have been a bit messily signalled.

They only released the final working version of the car checker website a few weeks ago, despite the Glasgow LEZ becoming chargeable from 1 June. A lot of people have been caught on the hop and had to jump into a new/er car relatively quickly. Especially as some cars which were compliant with the London ULEZ are not compliant with the Scottish ones. (I am in this situation myself.)

It's a right pain in the hoop.

Indeed, scottish central belt, unlike london ULEZ isnt a charge but a fine. and it ramps up. Need a car with room to cart my things. between courses. And company rules 100k or 10 years.

second hand market looking at 3-4 years old 30k miles and 20k ish... diesel...

no french... no rearwheel drive

no damage, 1 year warranty... etc...

Euro 5 and Euro 6 petrol standards are exactly the same, they cannot ban 5 and leave 6 because the name is one lower. The next thing to go will 100% be Euro 6 diesel, Paris are banning them from January 2024.

Euro 5 emission limits (petrol)
CO – 1.0 g/km
HC - 0.10 g/km
NOx – 0.06 g/km
PM – 0.005 g/km (direct injection only)

Euro 6 emission limits (petrol)
CO – 1.0 g/km
HC – 0.10 g/km
NOx – 0.06 g/km
PM – 0.005 g/km (direct injection only)
PM – 6.0x10 ^11/km (direct injection only)

Euro 6 emission limits (diesel)
CO – 0.50 g/km
HC+ NOx – 0.17 g/km
NOx – 0.08 g/km
PM – 0.005 g/km
PM – 6.0x10 ^11/km

It’s important to note that there are currently no plans for the arrival of the Euro 7 emissions standards to trigger a change in the rules for the London ULEZ or any other UK emissions zone but it’s worth knowing the Euro emissions rating of your car to understand whether you have to pay to enter a ULEZ or not.

Some horror stories with the CR engine, nothing will beat the PD for reliability, but saying that, of those my family have owned of the CR none seem to have been bad, even the earlier ones.

Still, if I had a V6 and could get a compliant V6 as a replacement, I wouldn't be getting a 1.6.

I would be the same.... but rockinghorse st... no v6 tdi euro6 diesels to be had...

And getting the right spec low milage cars is hard going. sad thing is this will probs be my last ICE car.

This is the reason -

Company rules...

under 100k miles and not more than 10 years...

Looking for similar to what I had and euro6... the prices... damn it man... its a car not a house lol

Need room in the car for boxes and test rigs... Not wanting to be changing a car every year... so started looking tried looking at electric. not a hope. all over with work and not wanting to be stuck with a non compliant car. and wanting to make a move before everyone else wakes up and prices for fresh cars go stratospheric.

Read what I said, the next change for petrols will be enforcing that all are Euro5 & not Euro4 as they currently are!
