Cheapest supercar
Discussion
Importing a Dodge Viper from the States might be a good value way of getting into something unusual by European standards.
I looked at the 'acceptable cars' list on one of the leading supercar clubs membership form and it says 'Chevrolet (All Models)' so it seems a Matiz would be acceptable.

I don't think that's a club I'd choose to join!I looked at the 'acceptable cars' list on one of the leading supercar clubs membership form and it says 'Chevrolet (All Models)' so it seems a Matiz would be acceptable.
In bikes, we (kind of?) have a 'definition' of 'Superbike' due to WSB racing.
The only 'supercar' racing seems to be in Oz, which is all about Ford and Holden V8s?
Personally I'd say a Maserati is a 'supercar' (due to being reasonably powerful and having great wallet-emptying potential) and quite likely the cheapest thing to deserve the name. Invent your own definition?

Cars like the Audi R8 are common in top level GT racing, so that might be a good litmus test. Although that would allow the BMW 6-series and the 911 to count and they're not especially 'super'.The only 'supercar' racing seems to be in Oz, which is all about Ford and Holden V8s?....

This has to tick a lot of boxes, orange Lotus Esprit V8 for £35k

A Maserati Granturismo is a car I hadn't thought about and the prices start at £20k. It certainly has the exhaust note of a supercar and the same size engine as the R8...In bikes, we (kind of?) have a 'definition' of 'Superbike' due to WSB racing.

I tentatively agree re the R8 but at the end of the day it's an Audi and part of being a supercar is the exotic badge...
My feelings are Gallardo or entry level Ferrari (360 @ circa £50k-60k?) ticks the box....
If we are talking "classic" supercars I reckon a V8 Lotus Esprit isn't a bad shout - Although it isn't really a "supercar" it is a very iconic and special car...
Super slim budget (sub £20k) a Maserati Granturismo or Quattroporte isn't a bad option... Poundstretcher special could be a sub £10k Maser 3200 but that would be at the buyer's peril !
