Does anyone know when I search on Autotrader for cars within 25 miles for example, it often shows me cars that are 100+ miles away still?
I know some are ads that are outside my range but mostly they just randomly appear within the other cars that are within my search radius.

I thought it did that for "promoted" ads.

Maybe thats it then? I do see ads which have 'AD' underneath but all the others don't.
Really annoying though when you see a car that seems good but then shows its 234miles away.

Similar issue when you’re searching for a £2K car and it shows you an advert / promoted £10K car.

Utterly pointless and annoying.

The promoted cars feature is highly annoying on AT. It does highlight completely irrelevant cars within a search and promotes the same cars too much.

Yep, I get this as well
It seems to be the Cazoo/CarShop type places that have the car at the other end of the country, but you can collect it from your local depot.
Now I'm not buying a car unseen, but maybe I'm in the minority and the car is rapidly becoming a 'white goods' type purchase for most people?

I wonder how many people see the promoted ads, and think : I was looking for a car under £5k within 50 miles, but damn - I think I will spend £10k and travel 300 miles to view the car after all..........

Not many I'm guessing!

One thing it shows is the huge regional variations in prices.

I’m in Scotland and as usual heading to the midlands to pick up a car on Monday.

The funniest thing is, it does it the other way too!

My boy was searching from highest to lowest the other day, browsing through McLaren, Ferrari etc. then it pops up with a Ford KA thumbup

It is annoying, but I would say maybe cars that can be delivered maybe count?

I noticed it was happening a lot with cars that didn't show the distance at all. When I clicked on them they were all being sold by a dealer that seems to operate a buy online and deliver type organisation.
