My dad is in the process of leasing a new car. He wanted it in a specific colour which the lease company said was in stock - so he places an order and within a week gets the Reg number.

When randomly checking the DVLA website he realised it's the wrong colour. Lease company and the supplying dealer confirm the error and dealer said there's the right colour and spec at the docks but they're just waiting for delivery.

Fast forward 3 weeks and the message from the lease company is that the dealer is receiving deliveries every few days at the moment but they never know which cars are arriving. That sounds like nonsense to me - surely the dealer will know exactly what's arriving and when.

I don't suppose anyone could confirm whether my dad's being fobbed off?

What's he being fobbed off on?

The colour or the delivery date?

If this is a Renault or an MG, I’ve heard this from a few people, it does come right in the end, but they seem to have no idea when stock is arriving or what colour it is

That's exactly what a VW dealer told us when getting wife's new car. We ordered one that was shown as "at port" in Germany but they said between there and arriving at the dealership they had no idea and it could be 4-6 weeks. Got a call 8 days later to say it had arrived at the dealer.

It's not the same manufacturer but sounds like there might be a similar way of operating. Fingers crossed it arrives soon for him given it's his first new car in 15 years!

Thanks. Seems like it happens a lot. I just found it strange that the dealer would have no idea what was arriving and when!

My wife’s new leased 2008 due end of June turned up at our house end of May, with 15 mins warning. The dealer and lease company had no idea why, we had to reject the delivery as we still have the Puma till the end of June. Lease company also told the driver to take it back as nobody has paid for it yet and no financial agreements in place.
