Strange bidding behavious on CollectingCar

Hi all,

I have been looking at bidding at a few auctions in CC and noticed some strange behaviour. There are a few users (don't want to mention their names), who initially bid on all auctions to get the price up to a mediocre level. Do you have any advice for bidding against them and are they even competing to purchase the cars?

Absolutely no idea, but could it be:

Bots that bid early and below reserve on everything, either to get the bidding started or a data scraping thing on other bidders?

Person bidding on everything hoping one day a bargain slips through the with no other bids/overbidder pulled out then sold at no-reserve?

Maybe they just carpet bomb low ball offers hoping to pick something up cheap ?

There's no crime in people bidding to the reserve even if they aren't genuine however some auctions can go up in much smaller increments if left to their own devices

Magic happens that bids all cars up to very close to their pre agreed reserve. I know this with my best mate having put his car on there. They want other bidders to join of course.

If those other bidders don't appear, they may well suggest you lower your reserve.

Probably the carpet-bomb approach.

Advertise almsot any car for sale on eBay or Gumtree and within minutes you'll have someone\something offering a vastly-below-value amount.

Much like spam email, it's cheap and easy to do, and it only has to work once.

Most auctions place their own house bids up until close to reserve. It's legal.

It's underhanded though, and dispels the myth that cars find their true value at auctions

Its not underhand, its how auctions work.

Just need to enter any bidding with your eyes wide open and research fully everything including the various fees.

Collecting cars at least let’s you see if certain bidders have bought via themselves though.
