To change or not to change? 2 family cars dilemma

I'm in a complete quandary about what to do about our cars and so looking to the forum for inspiration about what to do next.
I drive a G20 3 series, 330i which with a fair wind I think I can get ~£23k for.
Wife drives a 16 year old Polo beater which has miserably failed its MOT and probably needs around £700 to get it on the road again. We've been thinking about changing it for a couple of years now.
My driving is a mix of 3/4 times a week 10 mile round trip commutes with 2 or 3 hour drives a couple of times a month thrown in and summer hols/half terms into Europe. Ability to lug crap including cycles around is a plus.
Wife's driving is pretty much exclusively within a 15 miles radius of home. Four seats needed for both of us for child ferrying.
I'm open to changing my car as I'm a bit bored of it and thinking now might be a good time to cash out and replace my wife's car. I only paid £27k for it 2.5 years ago. There is no finance on it.
Ideally with the cash from my car I'd like to finance either a PCP/PCH or lease, buy a Polo replacement run around and have some contingency money left over. My car doesn't have to be new - used would be fine.
I've got £300 - £400ish budget for the monthlies. Say I did get £23k for it I'd like a decent chunk left over. My car history is 320d, Mk7 and Mk7.5 Golf R estates, G20 330. All of which I've enjoyed.
So I guess the brief is one replacement family car, one replacement run around. I am tempted by the A4 Avant 40 TFSI lease deals but never had an Audi and don't know much about these. I like the XC90s and the Alfa SUV thing but prob way out of my price range. The Skoda Superb estate looks good but also prob too expensive. I'd quite like to try something other than BMW. I like the idea of a brisk Merc estate.
Any ideas on what to consider?
