I went to view a car. HPI clear, I did checks across several platforms (vcheck, totalcarcheck, another I forget)

There were a LOT of red flags:
  • Wouldn't meet at their address, they gave me another address and ended up meeting me there / driving to a car park
  • They're a dealer, hence the car wasn't taxed for a year?!
  • They claimed they shred the first page of the V5C they receive "for data protection"
  • No history
  • I said I'd go and do my own research, and they said they would do the same to gather history
  • the next day they came back with a bit of an irate message, trying to fomo me into buying the car e.g. "call 101 if you think there's an issue, you have done the HPI check" etc

What's the scam here? Is there someone I should report this to?

My guess is it's not their car to sell. Owner is abroad or something?

As above, just move on and find another. Block the number on your phone.
