How poor is the battery range?

If you've only done 200 miles, and are saying it does no more than 200 miles on a tankful, then I guess you've not been driving using the battery at all?

What have you said to the dealer?

And what have they said to you?

I've been in a position of demanding a refund from Bmw for a faulty motorbike, and I can assure you it's not a smooth process.. Took me 7 months.

It has a 36 litre fuel tank.

What were you expecting in terms of range?

Was it a distance sale?

Did you view the car at the dealership before placing a deposit?

Did you pay for the car in full before seeing/collecting it from the dealership?

What is expected electric range and what are you achieving?

If you are achieving nowhere close to the electric range, surely dealer should diagnose and investigate?

^ in the unlikely event that you bought from your local dealer without visiting their premises, then you've got another 3 days to claim a full refund under the distance buying regulations. (14 days from purchase on 20th July).

However in the much more likely case that you visited the dealership in person prior to the actual purchase, then all sales are final unless the car has an actual fault.


It's quite possible that the dealer would offer you a 'buy back price', but it'll most likely be quite a bit lower than you paid.

They might also offer you the chance to part-ex it for another car they have in stock at a slightly more favourable rate.

Entirely feasible with a small engine lugging about a 1750kg car (the battery/inverter/motors/transmission aren't light).

It's on a par with my V6 exige, although that has its own reasons for having such a small tank and short range.

In all seriousness though, you'd have to prove the car is not fit for purpose, mis described or unsafe or whatever to have a snowball's chance in hell.

Maybe try speaking to the DP, say youve made a mistake, feel like its the wrong car for you and they might take it back with a modest loss

Poor economy seems a thing with them. If it is not being charged and planned in terms of longer journeys then that will make the situation worse.

Another poster has posted a page showing minimum 49mpg? That's real MPG. I'd be very disappointed with a modern car only getting 25mpg even lugging the tech about.

Well that’s 8 gallons, and a 1.5 petrol hybrid should manage 40mpg easily enough.
That’s 320 miles, or 280 if you don’t leave it too late.

200 sounds very low.
