Boring second car-short list?

Our second car (on lease) will be returned at the end of September. I'm not really considering another lease so looking at something for up to 6.5K (less will mean more in the budget for the main car due to be replaced next year but I've enough time to squirrel a few K away for that between now and then).

Requirements, pretty much used exclusively for short trips <5 miles running the kids to school, wife tends to use the current second car to go to work once or twice a week-I WFH pretty much full time.

5 door-our youngest is 4 and still needs help getting his seat belt on.

Reliability, used to having leases not had to MOT a car for a while-will have a second car as a back up.

Nice to haves:

Something that can be used as a dog wagon and occasional tip runs. Capable infrequent motorway trips if required.

I was planning on getting the cleanest Nissan Leaf I could get for <6K on the basis I have a home charger and would tick all the boxes, minus the longer trips which can live without-my wife tends to use the second car when she goes to catch up with friends and family without the kids but could take the main car.

Someone posted a shed C3 Picaso, might be worth a look, more practical, worries over shorter miles with a diesel.

Anyway, that's a diverse short-list. A Nissan Leaf...or an S-Max?

I love an S-Max, best family car I ever owned and would happily have another if the right one pops up on Gumtree/Autotrader etc. Maybe not the best option for pottering around locally though...

Can't be of much more use but wish you luck - I often have a look at stuff in this sort of price range, and decent stuff always seems a bit thin on the ground IMO...

Nissan leaf if you can charge at home is probably the best whitegoods car for your requirements.
Its deceptively spacious inside for a small car.
Tekna spec as linked comes with more toys then any other similar car for the money

Leaf all day long.

I had one on lease and did over 80k miles in 3 years with no issues.

It will be the most reliable and cheapest to run out of that list.

I suppose it's not so much of a diverse list as seeing what is within budget on Autotrader

I think I've reassured myself that the Leaf is the way to go, loads of short journeys, and can charge at home. So will keep an eye out for a clean example.

I'd give that particular Renault Captur a miss, if they can't be bothered to clean the interior or repair a puncture before photographing it for sale.

Plus it's missing a wheel arch trim and was a structural write off, definitely not a place for your kids and £6.5k of funds
