Does anyone have much experience with these?

I think they look fantastic inside and out.

Looking at an auto to use as a daily.

Annoyingly I do have a short commute and the petrols are rare so I'd likely have the diesel, but I'd do the occasional longer journey which would hopefully be enough to clear it out.

I have a soft spot for these, often found myself looking at the hybrid AWD version on Autotrader.

Didn't know that about the ride improving. Always seemed rather ironic that the ride was the thing holding a big Citroen back. I'd like a top spec diesel auto for my commute, I think they are cracking things.

Basically they adopted the 308 setup after criticism of the original setup.

I've had one for family duties for 8years now.

They aren't the last word in handling but spot on for family duties (quick turn in and then understeer very similar to audi).

The standard trim levels have loads of kit included so options are rare, usually 3 trim levels (names of these change every few years) so go for the top one (eg. Dsport) for all the gear.

Short journeys should be fine with the Hdi engines as they use eloys fluid too to keep the dpf clear, this fluid lasts so far 107k miles.

The chrome foil on the ashtray lid flakes off and leaves a razor sharp edge so dont put your fingers near there!

I went for a 2.0 Dstyle as I didnt want adblue or tpms as I know both are a pain with older PSA. And at the time you could opt for this, and add on the Dsport extras as options to bring it back up to full spec.

It's been ultra reliable and pretty cheap to run. Underneath it's a peugeot 3008 that's been lowered so suspension is all pretty chunky for a hatchback and 4x4 hybrid is an option if you need it.

I remapped mine from 163 to 200 which is plenty for the chassis, if was going to do anything else I would put it on airbags. Mine is a 1st gen car so the ride is super hard and it's practically a low rider so Id like to soften it and be able to raise up on rough lanes.

I think I made a really good choice, I came from a mercedes s500 so really wasnt looking forward to the 'downgrade' but dont regret this one at all.

I had the hybrid AWD version for some time. 2.0 diesel engine with an electric motor on the rear axle for added oomph.

I loved it. The exterior and interior are both stunning, and genuinely original. Very quiet inside. Rear legroom is not the greatest but...who cares.

Like other DS cars there is genuine quality. Everything feels heavy and solid, like Mercedes used to be before the accountants took over. Way better than the German competition IMHO. More like Lexus. Think of the DS5 as a French Lexus and you are not far off.

This car is optimised for relaxed cruising, in the classical French style. It is not a sports car. Reviewers of the time loved to laugh at how an Audi was better at going round corners. As usual, they missed the point. This is a car to travel in, not to get from A to B as fast as possible.

My advice is to get a diesel auto in the highest spec you can. Petrol versions are out there but very rare. The diesel auto powertrain suits the character of the car best. I would steer clear of the hybrid AWD; very few were made and I am not sure about the long term reliability. Having said that, nothing went wrong during my ownership and the same drivetrain was used in the Peugeot 508 for a short while.

I personally think that the pre-facelift versions look better. But the facelift versions have other improvements.

IMHO the DS5 is an example of what Citroen do best. Rather than looking at sales numbers, I would respect them for coming up with a genuinely new and interesting design and taking a risk rather than making just another bland hatchback.

I now have a DS9, which has a very similar ethos...

My mum test drove a demo back in 2015, I believe it was a DSport one, it was lovely inside but the ride was truly awful. Like really bad. I don’t think I have been in a worse riding car. That being said on non RFT’s, comfort spec and small wheels I can imagine the ride would be acceptable.

I believe that no DS5 came from the factory with RFTs. Sounds like the dealer put the wrong tyres on...

We've had a DS5 in the family for some years. 2.0l D / Auto. It is built well, looks great and is really versatile. Ours is an early model and did have the same ride quality issues as already mentioned so we replaced the dampers with Bilstein versions which transformed it well. You will never dial out all of the firm ride due to the torsen beam however it is very much improved.

Closing in on 80K now and its only ever needed wear and tear items & never let us down - they are great value for money! If you can find one with the "watchstrap" leather interior you won't be disappointed.

Hi, my father had several DS back in the old days !

For my part, I like and own a XM. It is an incredibly spacious and comfortable car. As I moved away to the continent, I was unable to take it with me. Pity, because it is still parked in my driveway in need of tlc.

Best wishes

Highest mile car I ever owned was an Xm 2.5 td estate, 336k miles, one rather eccentric owner.
