Anyone else noticed that car prices seems to be all over the place at the moment?

I’ve been looking to get a little run around to go to the station a couple of times a week etc and was just looking at Golf GTi’s mk7.5, I had one up until two years ago and there are car on VW website that have 40k miles more than mine had, are 4years older but at the same price I bought mine for 3years ago!!!

Then I’ve looked at things like little Kia’s and Toyota’s that are about 8years old but going for 75% as what they would have cost when new.

Now given that the UK currently has very high interest rates, utilities and essentials costing big bucks, car insurance and fuel increasing significantly then why are these cars so expensive? Historically when times are hard, cars plummet in value. I’d say that most of the cars I’ve been looking at as a a ‘shed’ would have been 1/3rd of the value they are now.

Back in the day it was easy to go to a BCA auction and see what the trade were paying for different vehicles thus having a better comprehension on what the market was actually doing.

Am I missing something?

Yes. The market is irrational, plenty of existing threads on this topic.
