Recently been looking at Polo GTIs and come across a 2016 1.8L Petrol DSG GTI and wanted to know if they are reliable?

Do they have any major or common issues I should know about?

Thanks in advance!

One major issue with the TFSi engines at this age is the fact they seriously burn oil

1 litre per 1000 miles is still within tolerances.

A 2016 model wouldn't be surely? If you're talking a MK5 Golf GTI, yeah, sure, but not a 7 year old one.

Probably be buyers guide somewhere, so worth a search. The 1.8 TSI unit is strong, as it's essentially the 2.0 TSI EA888 but just a bit smaller. Don't really suffer many issues, good on fuel, doesn't sound too bad, quick, responsive, etc.

Unsure if these are chain or belt driven but, if it's the latter, make sure it's been done as per the schedule and also ensure the same with the DSG oil servicing. Other than that, fairly normal routing checks I think.

A quick google shows it does effect the 6c model

Think it's always been a bit hit and miss with any iteration of this engine. All mine were brand new and needed none to minimum top ups between yearly services.

With that being said, I now have a 2009 Civic Type R which seems to need an oil top up per petrol re-fuel! rolleyes
