BMW 6er GT (G32)
Discussion
Posted this in the BMW subforum but maybe it will get a bit more exposure here and maybe some replies from anyone that has experience with these. I appreciate they are a bit unconventional looking but I may be the demographic that BMW was aiming for.
Been looking into these and they seem to be a bit more special than most people would think.
They ride on the 7-series architecture, meaning they get air ride an both axles (G31 5er only gest air in the rear in the touring version). It is also a bit wider than the 5 leading to a loftier interieur. Yu also sit a bit higher improving visibility. Rear legroom and comfort are clearly above the 5 and perhaps even better than a regular wheelbase 7er. Boot practicality is clearly better than the 5er and 7er sedan and may come close to the G31 touring.
The whole underbody of thecar has been coated with materials to improve NWH (including vibration dampers an d the likes). Undercar aero was also given more attention for the sake of improving NVH. It looks like BMW really strived to make this a GrandTourer, and paid special attention to comfort.
The more I look into these the more I think this may be some sort of spiritual succesor to the quirky Citroens (comfort driven, quirky styling). However the 6er GT has perfect weight distribution and balance, great drivetrain options, can be equipped with 4 wheel steering, active sway bars, has good build quality.
Some of the pictures really bring out the odd rear end, however a lot are shot from down low or parallel to the cars height, however in real life you mostly look at cars from a higher up perspective which in this case makes the rear end look a bit more palatable then its whale like predecesor (5 GT).
Here is a good veideo detailing the G32:

So waht is the deal with these, are they an underappreciated gem? How do they compare with the G31 5er and G11 7er?

I currently have a 5GT which as you mention is the 6GT's predecessor. Looks a side I really like it as a comfy, large family car.
The reason I bought my GT was my brother leased a 6GT 3.0D Msport X drive when they were first released for 3 years, having both driven it and been a passenger the newer 6GT is slightly more comfortable, has a much more modern cabin and a larger boot in terms of practical use, it loses out on the reclining rear seats though.
His did have a few niggles all fixed under the BMW warranty, water ingress into the boot from the rear spoiler and a strange issue where it would occasionally unlock itself and open the pano roof \ all windows when parked up which turned out to be a faulty body control module.
The diamond cut wheels seemed to be particularly vulnerable to the elements having stated to bubble after 1 Scottish winter even though they were undamaged, not unusual on diamond cut wheels though.
It did eat through tires and the 20" run flats are not cheap, a few owners on the GT owners groups have changed to non run flat tyres (as I have) and the general tyre wear and longevity is much better.
Other than that he did approx 40k miles in the car without any other issue.

The rear seats do have a reclining option in the 6GT ( backrest only), its one of its appeals for me as you basically have the rear compartment of a proper luxo barge.
The looks can be challenging, however the popularity of Teslas and other coupe like SUV's have made it less weird, more acceptable.
I want the luxury waft of a proper top class saloon but need more practicality and most of the luxury estates simply do not offer the refinement I want (cabin insulation is lacking due to the boot not being a separate compartment).
640i or 640d?

It is a differnt beast alltogether, as it blends all sorts of parts from the g31 5er and g11 7er and seems to be built for grand touring (comfort).it rides a bit higher and is a large car but nowhere near as jacked up as an X model.it has some presence!
On paper it makes an interesting case for itself and in the right spec the looks may age well.
Hard to source as they are rare and this may add to the strange appeal its been having on me.
I would love to hear how it compares to the 7er and 5er touring.

A few months ago I was really looking into these, for me they stack up well.
Currently have a T6 transporter, got 3 kids and we go camping so needed something with a decent boot, had the SUVs but not keen on them again and the price of these seem great for what you get.
Sadly wife hates them, she wants an Edge / X5 / Tiguan over these, I'll keep trying

I thought I was the only one that liked them….
No direct experience but have been looking into those. For the money, it is a lot of car, prices are helped by the fact that everyone goes for a 5 series instead.
From what I’ve read, the 5 drives better and has a bigger loading area. On everything else, the 6 GT seem to be ahead.

There is no way I would buy this with a 4 banger; the whole idea is for it t o be a luxury Grand Tourer.
Actually one of the main reasons to look at BMW offerings is the brilliant drivetrains as inline-6 cylinders with the ZF 8-speed. Both B58 (petrol) and B57 (diesel) are top engines. The only question remains if this car is better suited with the petrol or diesel motor. In my opinion the diesel suits it better, I am just worried about it being absolutely impossible to re-sell in a few years.
The looks of this weirdo offering seem to be very colour dependent.
