It's hard to tell which cars are offering good value these days, I'm in the market for an executive type of car along the lines of a 5 series or X5 type SUV - but the new shape 5 and X5 seem to be quite dear - not sure if these are reasonable pricing - 2yr old new shape 5 series estate seem to be £28k+ on a 21-plate - prefer an estate rather than saloon for family duties. New shape X5 seems to be £40k+ - wondering whether that's a fair price and also conundrum whether to spend so much on a car.

Is there a website that may show what cars are good value price wise for the year, some cars may have come down quite a lot - reading on some threads - electric cars are depreciating rapidly.

Would welcome your thoughts?

I'd look at a Volvo V90, nice cars. All finance is steep at the moment though..

Thanks, have been looking at the XC90 - quite good for family duties with the 7 seats - though not sure if the interior is somewhat dated and/or lacking in features.

I'm fortunate in that I wouldn't need finance.

I have just listed my 24-month-old 530e Touring (M-SPORT PRO) in Pistonheads classifieds for about 50% of the new price.
Just serviced and full year warranty left and £30k less than the new list. **

** There appear to be half a dozen brand-new cars listed at around £5k to £7k off the list price.

This is a very nice motor and one I'm considering

Can’t really go wrong with a 5 series or an E Class as previously mentioned. I’d also have a look at an Audi A6 3.0 Quattro. Great cars.

Great choice. These were the two cars I homed in on when I was searching. Opted for the E53 estate in the end as I wanted petrol. Still love the Touareg though

Not sure about a website but it might be worth looking at the DS7, they seem to be one of the few cars (apart from BEVs) where they depreciate quite a bit and you can still get a good discount on a new one.

I think it's not quite X5 sized and it's not an off-road weapon at all but it's comfy, reliable, quirky, and very very nice inside. But make sure you get either a new one, or a used one with the DS IRIS infotainment update. The old infotainment is really not very good.

I currently drive an Audi 2009 A6 C6 - long overdue an upgrade ,hehe Thought I'd try a different brand, good party trick about the BMW 5 touring - is the rear trunk split window opening - hopefully, it's practical and not just a gimmick

Part of me posting was to check out other brands rather than the usual german marques, seems to be a lot more different brands coming out - was also thinking about the Genesis brand
