I'm buying a June 2022 Mazda privately and I like the car but when I asked about the 1 year service he had it done locally with his friend and not a mazda dealer.

He gave me the number of his friend who serviced it, who is not a Vat registered mechanic. He said the car had been well looked after and he stamped the book (I haven't checked this yet).

Would this have any impact on the warranty? I can't seem to find anything on mazdas warranty terms and conditions. It's due a 2 year service in a couple of months and I would like it to have a full service history for when I eventually sell or trade it in.

Any advice here? Thanks

Just assume the warranty is voided.

How do you know the correct service items have been undertaken and correct oil and filter used. If he got his 'friend' to service it to save a few quid what else has he skimped on.

I would find another with a main dealer service history and cast iron warranty which this car clearly hasn't got which will inevitably present problems in the future if you want to claim under warranty as well as impacting the cars future residual value.

I would agree, move on to the next one it's not worth the hassle.
You can almost guarantee the warranty is void.

Warranty terms are usually VAT registered and genuine parts. Essentially his mate has changed the oil and nothing else.

Do Mazdas have a service book to stamp? I seem to recall them being one of the first digital service records

He got back to say the log book states vehicles are recorded digitally.

Any way to check the service history, ring mazda?

Mazda will not have a record of the latest "service" on their system as his "mate" won't be authorised to access it and update.

Unless you are getting this car at a significantly reduced price you are better off looking for one that has been serviced properly and still retains the Mazda warranty.

Quite an odd thing to do with a year old car… plus flogging it now? Move on. Run

Yeah sometimes you just want something to make sense and convince yourself.

I have pulled out of the deal just too many red flags. Back to the drawing board!

Just buy another one.

Who on earth gets a mate to do a service on a one year old car?

Any warranty claims on the engine won't go through unless he was Vat registered, and has proof of genuine Mazda parts used, and the correct schedule done.

And if you go to sell this car anytime soon, it's be a "no thanks" from the dealers, or a large reduction.

The warranty will be void if the service hasn't been carried out with proof of genuine parts being bought & being fitted by a VAT registered garage.

They sorted the diesel issues around 2017 iirc, a 2022 model should be fine.

Edit- original reply was unnecessarily blunt from me.

Owning a 2019 2.2 Mazda diesel and being a member of a number of owners groups, I can confirm the ‘fix’ hasn’t worked.
