Is there a way that I can tell the age of an autotrader advert and if there has been any price changes?

Thanks in advance😊

Try installing the Motorwatch extension into your browser.

The date the ad was first posted is easy, it's the beginning of the numeric part of the URL in ISO format

eg this ad https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202405069...
was posted yesterday (2024-05-06)

Random question

Is there an extension/app that can skim autotrader advertised price and vehicle details and compare it to existing trade price and show the profit margin?

I tell you why I ask,
My friend wants a Fiesta, there’s bloody hundreds of them for sale in the age and engine type.
Is there a way to filter?
Before someone say, sort by price - yes I get that.

But just wondering if there was an app that can link weekly CAP value to auto trader price and work out the margin?

I don't understand how that would be helpful but it would be impossible. You could have 2 identical cars, one which was bought for £2k less than the trade price because it needed some work doing and the other that was £500 over trade price because its in good order.

Just gives you an idea

Right now he’s having to use my BCA log in to get CAP and then compare it to retail to see what looks value

Just wondered if there was a browser extension they could take the AT advertised info compare it to latest CAP value and highlight the margin so he could focus on what looks good value

The AT good , fair, etc price guide thing is compete rubbish

The AT price guide (Lower/Fair/High etc) is not rubbish, it is more realistic than CAP as it actually sources their massive database for what vehicles actually sell for in the current market, if you relied on CAP as was the case in the trade years ago you'd catch a cold more often than not.

It’s not going to tell you much. One that looks like value might just be an utter dog of a car.

I think it’s fair to say that the answer is likely to be no.

Your friend sounds a car dealers dream…. If he wants to pay CAP buy from BCA and let us know how he gets on. Remember, CAP is a guide and can be thousands out, e.g new shape Tucsons seem to be doing over 105% CAP.

As mentioned by other posters every car is different, as for the Autotrader price markings, they are a lot more accurate than CAP for retail values as it bases the value on age, miles, specification and most importantly other cars for sale / sold on the platform.

A dealer's margin is none of yours or your friends business

What does it matter what the dealer may or may not have paid for it?

And whats the relevance? If the car being looked at is the cheapest who cares what the dealer bought it for?

Why doesn't he use your BCA login to buy what he wants?

And why, if he wants the lowest price, is he looking on AT?

Your friend sounds like a moron.
