Tesco tried the same thing back in 2012, I am sure in another few years another company will lose billions giving it another go.

I know someone that was high up in Tesco cars and he said the main problem was nobody could in the business really understood how the car market worked and Tesco would not let Tesco cars have any Clubcard data etc so they could market Tesco cars. They even had to pay for adverts on Tesco petrol pumps.
