Hello all,

I would like to draw upon the knowledge of the forum members to compile a list of potential cars I could purchase which would offer me the opportunity to jump in the back seats, and sleep. Specifically a car, not a camper van.

I saw the Maybach 62 has reclining chairs, and blinds, also a divider between the front and back seats which would also block light coming from the front windows.

Are there any other cars, classic or modern that could serve the same purpose, at an affordable price?

I have a Mercedes E class estate and with the rear seats folded there is a flat area large enough to sleep. Never tried it though.

If you've ever slept overnight in a car you'll quickly realise why campervans have insulation.

The front seats of a Renault 10 slide all the way forward under the dashboard far enough to allow their backrests to fold down and meet up with the base of the back seat turning the entire interior into a softly sprung leatherette mattress. I had one at university in the early 90’s and slept in it many a time rather than drive it home drunk. Best to select 4th gear to minimise intrusion by the spindly chrome gear stick.

A good number of the JDM people carriers have comfy reclining seats in the middle row, namely the Alphard, Estima and Elgrand. And the Elgrand could be specced with electric curtains that shut at the push of a button.

i forgot the Chevvy Astro Day Van - not technically a car, but not a camper either.

Has an electronic folding double in the rear!

You need an Austin Maxi

When launched, its maker declared that with the front seats fully reclined, the Maxi provided a 6ft 5in sleeping area

Are we talking about sleeping in the rear of the car on reclining seats or using the full length of an estate or MPV?

For sleeping in a reclining seat I would imagine something MPV ish or a LWB A-Class

I camp regularly for one night in the back of my Passat Estate - fold down rear seats, pull boot floor to highest position, inflate mattress.

I was going to say, an electric car (heat pump equipped) if you wanted to run the heating and cooling for a prolonged period whilst sleeping.

But whether assembling a bed and blocking out windows is what the OP wanted? I'd suggest an eye blind fixes the latter issue...

What you want is the widest possible car you can get along with a flat rear bench seat.

When I'm on long trips, I often have a snooze in the back of my iX and because the car is so wide and the seat is flat, you just need a pillow and eye mask, and job done.

My FN2 Civic Type S GT was good for this, the seats folded flat and there was plenty of space. It will depend how much other kit you have though. With this being PistonHeads a Type R is recommended

I had a Civic but the floor wasn't flat as I discovered at 3am after a very boozy wedding.

A awful night's sleep that was

Dacia Jogger has a sleep pack
https://www.autoexpress.co.uk/dacia/359729/dacia-j...

What has Dacia created with the Sleep Pack, then? It’s not a rival to a motorhome. But assuming that the UK’s still-unconfirmed pricing gets vaguely close to the European total (around £1,300 when ordered with a vehicle, and a little more as an aftermarket accessory), then what you have here is a kit that allows you to convert your Jogger into a temporary bedroom, with exceptional value and a surprising amount of comfort, but no added frippery. It might seem a strange option for the company to offer, but in pretty much every way, it’s also absolutely on brand.

My old Subaru Legacy (BP model) was good for fishing trips/sleeping in. Front seat forwards, rears flat, loads of room in the back.
