Changing my car after 19 years!!

Hi All,
Looking at changing car now that I can afford it. Previously had a 2.0litre G registration Granada, then moved to a ‘02 Renault Clio and then a ‘55 BMW 325i.
People around me have had many a fast car (Model Y, Golf R, A35 AMG) so I think I’m at a stage of getting something a bit sportier but with practicality still and importantly space for my grandchildren - sportiness for when I’m feeling spirited of course!
Budget is around £25k, used or new, non EV.

Taking the 'space for my grandchildren' requirement to mean a similar size to your 3-series, and presuming you like it (as you kept it so long), how about a newer one? 25k will buy a good current shape 330e around 3 years old, or a previous shape 340i around 5 years old - the latter is a really good car, IMHO, and is very quick.
Apart from one brief mistaken purchase, I've driven 3 and 4 series BMs as daily drivers for the last 18 years, all straight six petrol engined, so I may be a bit biased but I think they are really good.

Check the boot space on the 330e hybrid before you buy - it was a big complaint of the driver on our fleet who had a 2016 one. When he had to ferry three Norwegians around the country visiting customers there wasn't enough room for their minimal luggage, as the hybrid battery compromised the boot space.
He changed to a 2017 C330e Merc hybrid estate which solved the problem. You should be able to gte a 2021 car for your budget.

This is the route I went down. I bought a used approved 2018 340i Shadow Edition with plenty of spec for £25k from Lloyds BMW. It's fun in sport plus mode and very rapid for a non-M car but does the family/daily boring stuff really well. Might not be as focused or fun as other options but as a jack of all trades, it's great. I was looking at an M3 but that would have meant I'd have to finance £10k of it and although I don't do many miles, the extra servicing and running costs didn't make sense. I'm on my 4th BMW now and never had an issue with reliability so it's a good option if you're planning on keeping it for a few years.

I'd say that the 3.3T Kia Stinger would be a very good option at this price point, they're a good steer & you'll have a chunk of warranty left:Looking at changing car now that I can afford it.
