I currently have a cracking one previous owner 911 997 C2 manual. It’s worth roughly what I paid for it four years ago - low £20ks - which was three times what I’d ever paid for a car before!

I love the steering, and the power, and the curves, and driving something iconic and admired (childhood trauma, and being mocked at school for not having stuff, OK?).

But otherwise not really my kind of car. I like a bit of poke, but I’m a sedate, touring kind of car. And I need more / more practical luggage space, especially as getting back into paragliding.

It’s a semi-weekend car (we’ve got two Swedishly sensible other cars in the household), but could do the occasional fair-weather commute for fun. Happy to put in another £15k or so. Would love a Nissan GTR, but it would have to be an orange one, more recent, which puts it out of budget.

911 SORNed for winter, so considering swap in Spring 2025.

So . . . .
Max budget £40k-ish;
Beautiful to look at;
As easy-to-own as a good 911 (so sixes and V8s only? Plus a choice of specialist indies out there);
Plenty of power;
Comfortable touring for two + luggage?

I'd go for a Granturismo Sport as well.

The Rapide and mark 2 Conti GT are nice as well, but maybe a bit rich for your blood?

Thanks guys - great help. Super ideas.

Never thought of a Corvette before - think it’s between that and the Maserati!

Keep my eyes open from now on- can always get the 997 out of storage if the right car comes up through the winter.

Need something to look forward to. I’ll update when I jump.

If you go Masser, ensure plenty of life left in discs and suspension is fresh….both are very expensive and need doing more than you would think given not a light car.

Loved owning mine.

Bentley Continental GT V8S would be in range. A real sense of occasion and with the sports exhaust they sound lovely!
